2 August 2026 | Sunday

Alhamdulillah, today our co-founder Sufian and core member Sani shared their lived experiences at Insan Mukmin by FITRAH at Masjid Al-Istighfar.

Allah ď·» says:

"Say, O My servants who have transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of Allah. Indeed, Allah forgives all sins. Indeed, it is He who is the Most Forgiving, the Most Merciful." (Surah Az-Zumar 39:53)

Sometimes, the very past we are ashamed of becomes the story that Allah uses to guide someone else. Our scars become reminders of His mercy, and our journey becomes proof that no soul is ever too far from His forgiveness.

May Allah continue to use us as a means of benefit, keep us sincere in our intentions, steadfast upon His deen, and make every story shared a source of guidance, hope, and healing for others.

Allahumma aamiin. 🤲🏼

31 July 2026 | Friday

This week’s discussion focused on caregiving.

One of the strengths of our sessions is the range of perspectives in the room. Everyone’s journey is different—some have strong support systems, others face life with very little. It reminds us to understand, not judge.

We also looked beyond caring for family, reflecting on the role of befrienders who walk alongside our brothers and sisters in recovery, offering support, hope and encouragement.

Ustaz Azmi from FITRAH shared an Islamic perspective on caregiving. He reminded us that to care for others well, we must also care for ourselves—spiritually, emotionally and mentally. We cannot pour from an empty cup.

He reminded us of Allah’s words:

"O you who believe! Seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with those who are patient." (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:153)

Ustaz also reminded us that everyone needs reminders, no matter how small. When we advise others, we are also reminding ourselves. It is not superiority, but a shared responsibility and mutual care. As taught by Rasulullah ď·ş, we are all of benefit to one another, each with our duties in this life.

We reflected on the Prophet ﷺ’s response to a young man who sought permission to commit zina. Instead of anger, he responded with calm compassion—listening, asking gentle questions, making du’a, and guiding him with wisdom. A powerful reminder that empathy and kindness reach hearts where harshness cannot.

The session closed with a final reminder: hold firmly to your solat. It is our greatest source of strength, guidance and comfort through every test and responsibility.

May Allah SWT grant strength to every caregiver and befriender, accept every act of service, and make us a means of mercy for those who are struggling. Aamiin. 🤲🏼

29 July 2026 | Wednesday

Alhamdulillah, earlier today our core members, Ashyik and Darling, together with their daughter Bella, were invited by FITRAH to deliver an Awareness Talk at Madrasah Al Ma'arif Al-Islamiah for their pre-university students.

The session focused on Social Issues: Drugs, Incarceration and Delinquency, where they shared their family's lived experience and the impact addiction and incarceration have on individuals, families and the wider community.

One of the key messages shared was the importance of breaking the cycle of intergenerational offending. Bella courageously shared her experience of growing up while both her parents were incarcerated, the responsibilities she carried, and the challenges she faced. Despite everything, she chose not to follow in their footsteps. Instead, she became a source of strength for her younger siblings, proving that our past does not determine our future and that every generation has the opportunity to make a different choice.

The session also highlighted the immense rahmah (mercy) of Allah SWT. Through sincere repentance, hijrah and istiqamah, Ashyik and Darling reflected on how Allah opened the doors to change, allowing them to rebuild their lives with faith, purpose and hope.

May Allah SWT continue to protect our youth, strengthen our families, and guide us all towards His path. May He grant us the courage to break harmful cycles and leave behind a legacy of faith and goodness for the generations to come. Ameen. 🤲🏼

We are grateful beyond words. 🙇🏽‍♀️

Another achievement unlocked for Agents of Change. It is truly an honour to receive this Appreciation Award. Every drop of sweat, every challenge, and every sacrifice has been worth it.

We know this is not the finish line. There is still so much more to learn, improve, and overcome. But today, we choose to celebrate every milestone we've achieved, no matter how small, because every step forward is a step closer to making a greater difference.

A special congratulations to our core member, Ashyik, on receiving his 3 Years Long Service Award. We are incredibly proud of you and grateful for your unwavering commitment and dedication.

At AOC, we don't compete with one another—we support one another. We rise, we grow, and we celebrate every victory together.

In AOC, we rise together. Stronger together. Better together. 💙💪🏼

Gratitude.

Yesterday's session reminded us that there is always something to be grateful for.

Even being able to attend the session itself is a blessing. Allah allowed each of us to be there for a reason. Perhaps there was something we needed to hear, someone we were meant to encourage, a lesson we were meant to witness, or simply because our own hearts needed the reminder.

Nothing happens without purpose.

We also spoke about red flags. As human beings, we often follow our hearts. Sometimes the signs are clear, yet we choose denial, holding on to the hope that things will eventually change.

But not everything changes just because we hope it will.

Sometimes Allah closes a door because He knows what we cannot see. He knows what is hidden, what may harm us, and what is truly best for us. Trusting Allah's plan is not always easy, but His wisdom is always greater than our understanding.

Sometimes we become so focused on the outcome that we forget Allah may first be calling us to make the right choice. Perhaps the blessing we're waiting for begins with obedience, sincerity, and trusting His plan. When we do our part for the sake of Allah, we leave the outcome to Him, knowing He always knows what is best.

May Allah grant us hearts that are grateful in every situation, the wisdom to recognise what is good for us, and the strength to accept His decree with trust and contentment.

Alhamdulillah for every blessing, seen and unseen. 🤍

Weekly AOC Check-In 🤝💙

Yesterday’s session was a reminder that recovery is something we choose every single day.

We reflected on the recent CNB news and asked ourselves a difficult but important question: "What if it had been us?" It brought us back to the reality of the pain, regret, and heartbreak our loved ones would have to endure.

A brother shared his relapse, met with compassion, not judgment. His wife spoke about her depression and the toll on their family.

One by one, everyone shared their own lived experiences, words of encouragement, and affirmations. It was a powerful reminder that healing begins with honesty, accountability, and the willingness to keep showing up—even after we fall.

All in all, it was truly a meeting of minds and, InsyAllah, a step towards reconciliation for both of them. This is the beauty and power of AOC—where differences can be expressed openly without acrimony, and understanding can grow.

Recovery is not about never making mistakes. It's about having the courage to be truthful, seek help, and continue walking the path together.

May Allah keep us steadfast, protect our hearts from returning to our past, and grant strength to every individual and family on this journey. Allahumma ameen. 🤲🏼💙

Change begins with a single step.

It doesn’t have to be big or perfect—just intentional. Growth takes time, and meaningful change unfolds gradually.

Keep showing up, even on the days it feels difficult. Progress isn’t always visible, but it’s always happening.

There will be challenges along the way, but within them lies strength, healing, and transformation.

Stay patient with yourself. Trust the process. One step at a time.

"Indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is within themselves." (Qur'an 13:11)

May Allah ease our journeys and keep us steadfast. Allahumma Ameen. 🤲🏼

8 July 2026 | Tuesday
Jamiyah Halfway House

Today, our core member Hasbi and desistor Azmi (Small) facilitated the programme at Jamiyah Halfway House.

Today's session was an open-topic sharing, but one resident's story stayed with us.

He shared his plans after being discharged from Jamiyah. After years of staying clean, he relapsed and has now completed his fourth DRC. Yet despite everything, he hasn't given up. This time, he wants to save up, rebuild his life, make things right, and stay committed to recovery.

That reminded us of something important.

We're not here to tell anyone that we've "made it" or that we're better than anyone else. We're here because we've walked this journey too.

If you fall, don't let that be the end of your story. Pick yourself up, wipe the dirt off, learn from the fall, and keep moving forward.

Recovery isn't about never falling. It's about having the courage to rise every single time you do.

In shaa Allah, we'll continue walking this journey together—supporting one another, one step at a time, towards lasting recovery. 🌱
