Rolypoly Family Dance, play, body safety! Our lessons and projects are age-appropriate, context-informed and culturally-aware. Rolypoly Family is a division of Derring-Do Dance.

Rolypoly Family is dedicated to honouring childrenโ€™s creative genius while supporting the artistic and socio-emotional learning of diverse young children, their families and their communities. Led by dance artists Bernice Lee and Faye Lim, we produce delightful dance experiences, such as performances, interdisciplinary projects, workshops and classes, from our artistsโ€™ intuitive choreographic and

movement practices. Our Body Smarts Through Movement Arts programme teaches body safety and sexuality education topics to diverse communities, using a multi-modal approach that includes movement, art, craft and discussion. We also provide training & consulting for artists, educators and organisations who want to build healthier, safer and/or more creative spaces for diverse children. Our workshops and consulting services can help expand capacities, bridge gaps or tackle specific problems in your projects, communities or workplaces. Our name is a statement of our beliefs โ€“ that families come in all shapes and sizes, that kinship can grow through creative and physical play (yes, rolling!), and that rhyming is as fun in language as in dance. We partner with groups and organisations across Singapore, such as community groups, social service organisations, arts groups and institutions, and government agencies. Itโ€™s a wrap for Light Years Choreographers! ๐Ÿ’ซ

From last November, we ran a series of creative dance camps which culminated in a choreographersโ€™ showcase this June. We're incredibly proud of the young choreographers for their confidence, creative energies and collaborative spirits. ๐Ÿ‘

Here are some highlights from our latest camp, made possible by the team working tirelessly and mindfully behind the scenes, the artists and venues we got to visit, and of course, all the young choreographers, their families and communities who showed up with so much love and support ๐Ÿฅณ

Maintaining safety is a constant effort. The work of building, rebuilding and maintaining safety/harm reduction through our interactions with children and families through our teaching practices is particularly important to us at Rolypoly Family.

Thank you for joining us for the Light Years Holiday Dance Camp in March! ๐Ÿคธ

As some of the young choreographers reunited this round, they reminisced friendships made from the previous camp, and recalled exercises and choreography with much detail and excitement. The time passed had allowed them to revisit movements they last made together with fresh eyes, and deeper insight! The young choreographers also got to explore some simple lighting design - thinking about how colour, intensity and timing make a difference to their choreography.

We can't wait to continue making and championing the young choreographers' diverse ideas for movement, and we'll be back with another camp in June! ๐Ÿฅณ

The June showcase will be held in association with T.H.E Dance Companyโ€™s contโ€ขact Dance Festival 2026! ๐ŸŽŠ
