No, your eyes are not deceiving you.

USS Boxer (LHD-4), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, transited the Johor Strait on the afternoon of 19 May 2026 before coming alongside at Sembawang Naval Installation in Singapore, a rare occurence for a naval vessel of this type and size.

USS Boxer was previously observed transiting the Singapore Strait westbound on 30 April 2026. Photos published on DVIDS show the Boxer ARG operating in the Indian Ocean during this period, despite speculation that the ARG would be deployed to the CENTCOM AOR.

Just four days earlier, the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) was reported to have transited the Surigao Strait and then the Sulu Sea.

The Boxer ARG is deployed with the 11th MEU and also includes USS Portland (LPD-27), which was not observed during the transit.

USS Tulsa (LCS-16) sails along the Johor Strait on the afternoon of 18 March 2026, heading for the Sembawang Naval Installation, where the US Navy’s CTF 73/CLWP maintains its headquarters.

USS Tulsa is joined by USS Santa Barbara (LCS-32) at the same facility, with the latter arriving earlier in the day. Both ships previously made headlines after being sighted at the North Butterworth Container Terminal (NBCT) in Penang, Malaysia, from 14 to 16 March, despite reportedly being forward-deployed to the Middle East.

USS Tripoli (LHA-7) and USS New Orleans (LPD-18) transited the Singapore Strait westbound at dusk on 17 March 2026.

First reported by the Wall Street Journal on 13 March, the Pentagon ordered the deployment of USS Tripoli, an America-class amphibious assault ship, along with elements of the Okinawa-based 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) to the Middle East. The specific operations that USS Tripoli and the MEU may undertake under CENTCOM remain unclear, as the Iran war enters its third week.
