Monthly Scams Bulletin #7 (24 July 2026)

🚨️“Microsoft” Pop-Up Alert? Do not panic!

Scammers used fake Microsoft pop-up alerts to trick victims into calling a "technical support" number.

After calling the number, victims were transferred to a fake "police officer" who allege them of being involved in criminal activities and request for access to their device(s).

Having gained access, scammers would make unauthorised transactions from victims' bank accounts.

Protect yourself:

❌ Never call numbers shown in a pop-up alert.

✅ Always verify alerts through your software provider’s official channels.

⚠️ Remember: Microsoft does NOT include phone numbers in its error messages.

Heads up, drivers!

Changes to the Driver Improvement Points System (DIPS) take effect from 1 Jan 2027.

Know the new rules, stay safe on the roads.

𝗧𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 (𝗗𝗜𝗣𝗦)

To enhance road safety, the Singapore Police Force will be tightening the Driver Improvement Points System (DIPS) to better deter traffic violations and keep errant motorists off our roads for longer periods, effective 1 January 2027.

Key changes include:
• Lower thresholds for licence suspension and revocation
• Longer suspension periods for each suspension
• Changes to educational interventions for errant motorists

These changes reinforce the importance of responsible driving and encourage all motorists to play their part in making our roads safer for everyone.

🚨 Government officials, including Police officers, will never ask you to transfer money, hand over valuables, or disclose bank log in details over phone calls — and certainly not SM Lee!

⚠️ Are you unknowingly helping scammers? ⚠️

🤔 A scam mule is someone who helps scammers carry out their crimes — sometimes without even realising it. Scammers recruit people with promises of easy money to do things like:

🏦 Letting others use your bank account 📱 Selling or handing over your SIM card 🪪 Sharing your Singpass access

🚨 The consequences are serious. If your Singpass, bank account, or SIM card is used for criminal activities, you can be held criminally liable and face:

💰 Fines of up to S$500,000
🔒 Jail terms of up to 10 years
⚖️ Caning of up to 12 strokes

🛑 Don't be fooled. Protect yourself — and others. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

On 20 July 2026, Tampines NPC conducted a Crime Prevention talk for the staff of Temasek Polytechnic. 🏫

Our officers shared valuable insights on the latest crime trends and how to stay one step ahead of scammers and criminals. 🚔 These knowledge can also be passed on to their students — because awareness is best when shared! 💡

Scam Alert: Phishing Text Messages Impersonating Courier Companies

Scammers are sending text messages or emails impersonating courier companies like NinjaVan and J&T Express, claiming your parcel could not be delivered. They trick you into clicking a phishing link that leads to a fake courier website, where you are asked to pay a small "re-delivery fee" (as low as $0.06) and enter your card details.

😲 At least 43 cases have been reported since 24 June 2026, with losses exceeding $259,000.

What you should do:

✅ Access the courier’s official website or app directly instead of clicking unsolicited links

✅ Never enter your card details through links in unsolicited messages
