Every week, I look forward to our Meet-the-People Session. It is always a meaningful opportunity to meet our neighbours and friends in Whampoa-Boon Keng, listen to their concerns, and do our best to help bridge the gap between residents and the relevant government agencies.

Many of the issues shared are deeply personal, and while we may not always have immediate solutions, every conversation is a chance to listen, support, and work together towards the best possible outcome.

I also want to say a heartfelt thank you to our amazing team of volunteers. Week after week, they generously give their evenings to serve our residents with patience, compassion, and dedication. From welcoming residents and managing the queue to helping prepare appeals and offering a listening ear, every volunteer plays an important role in making our Meet-the-People Session possible.

Your quiet acts of service often go unseen, but they make a real difference to the lives of so many. I am truly grateful to have such a committed team serving alongside me.

Thank you to everyone who continues to place your trust in us. We will keep doing our best to serve our community, one conversation and one family at a time.

Several of my parliamentary questions in July were postponed to parliament's sitting this month, as parliament only sat for one day in July.

In addition to those, I've added a few more on several key issues impacting our everyday lives and long-term planning: land use, hawker safety, and problem gambling safeguards.

First, on land planning considerations. Building on efforts by MPs Sim Ann, Chris de Souza, and others - in the context of the Maju forest redevelopment - I am asking the Ministry of National Development about planning considerations when redeveloping plots with biodiversity value, especially while population projections stay below earlier estimates.

Second, on protecting our hawkers and heartland stalls, in light of the recent fire in Whampoa market. Hawkers are vital to our daily lives, but a fire can severely affect their livelihoods. I am asking the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment about the proportion of hawkers holding fire and public liability insurance, whether insurance coverage differs, and if current coverage is adequate. I am also asking whether minimum insurance can be mandated and what safeguards exist to ensure continuity of stall operations and protection for third parties.

Third, on digital safeguards against problem gambling. I am asking the Coordinating Minister for National Security and Minister for Home Affairs whether the Gambling Regulatory Authority is aware that users can place bets on the Singapore Pools app while overseas using Singapore telco roaming data, despite geographic location requirements, and whether this loophole will be closed to combat problem gambling.

Thank you to Mediacorp Channel 8's Focus 焦点 for inviting me to share my thoughts.

From the moment I received the appointment to returning to public service after my time in the private sector, every step has reminded me of the responsibility I carry. I believe good policies begin with listening. That's why I want to first learn, first listen, and bring residents' voices into the policymaking process so that our decisions reflect the needs of the people we serve.

Education, healthcare and families are issues that matter deeply to me. No matter how busy work gets, I remain committed to being present as a father—sending my children to school every morning and, whenever possible, being home for dinner with my family. These everyday moments keep me grounded and help me better understand the hopes and challenges faced by families across Singapore.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. I will continue to listen with humility, serve with dedication, and do my best for our community.

As co-head of the PAP Policy Forum, together with MP Charlene Chen, I love to join the team to listen and engage with our activists and friends of the PAP.

The forum is the PAP's platform for policy advocacy and regularly provides direct access to Goverment Ministers. We are always oversubscribed and always overrun our allocated time!

This time, we had Minister Desmond spend close to three hours engaging with us on education reforms. (This was planned way before we knew about my future appointment at the MOE!) Our education GPC members, MPs Charlene and Elysa, also joined.

Much credit goes to the PAP Policy Forum council for organising and facilitating the focus groups.

Do join us for the next one!

十年树木,百年树人
“It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to nurture a person.”

I was privileged to join Hong Wen School and the Hinn Ann Huay Kuan in celebrating its 106th anniversary.

For over a century, the school has remained steadfast in its mission of nurturing not just academic excellence, but also strong values, bilingualism, and an appreciation of our rich Chinese cultural heritage.

Seeing the students perform with such confidence and pride, alongside the many alumni, educators and community partners who continue to support the school, was a powerful reminder that education is a shared effort across generations.

Congratulations to Hong Wen School on this significant milestone. Here’s to many more years of inspiring young minds and shaping future generations.

Had the chance to sit down with Channel 8 News to speak about the new appointments starting next year, where I hope to bring my corporate leadership experience to Government policy discussions.

It is too early to talk about policy positions. I want to take a listening approach to understand issues deeper first. From all Singaporeans, and especially our hardworking heathcare and education professionals.

I also shared how it is important to inculcate the joy of learning in all children, so that learning can be a lifelong experience, and not just one that ends at graduation. Likewise, how a healthy life is a lifelong endeavour, and not only when someone falls sick.

There's something special about seeing our neighbourhood come alive in red and white.

Thank you to the Bendemeer Market and Food Centre Association for generously sponsoring this year's National Day light-up, including Kallang Community Club! Your support has added a festive touch to our Boon Keng area and created a beautiful space for residents to enjoy as we celebrate Singapore's 61st birthday.

Let's continue to cherish the kampung spirit that brings us together and makes our community a wonderful place to call home.

Every new responsibility comes with new challenges. I'm grateful to have the support of my family, residents, colleagues and friends along the way.

I recently had a candid chat with Mothership about balancing family, serving as an MP, and my new role as Minister of State for Education and Health. We also had a good laugh when they tested me on Gen Z slang... let's just say my kids might have to coach me a little more😄 make sure to watch to the end for the extra cuts!
