Catholic Community In Sierra Leone Honors Amb. Omaku In Grand Style, As He Hold Thanksgiving Mass.

It was outpouring of praises and encomiums on the outgoing High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Amb. Henry John Omaku, Fcim yesterday as he held a thanksgiving Mass at Our Lady Star Of The Sea Church, Juba, Freetown. The thanksgiving Mass according to Amb. Omaku, was to appreciate God for sparing his life and that of his family as he successfully come to the end of his duty tour as a Diplomat.

Amb. Omaku used the opportunity to appreciate family, friends and colleagues both in Sierra Leone and in Nigeria, for all their supports and encouragements while serving as a High Commissioner.

Speaking during the church service, the Arch Bishop of Freetown, Most Rev. Edward Tamba Charles, recounted how the High Commissioner had touched the lives of many people in Sierra Leone and the changes he inspired since he arrived the country. Rev. Tamba said the High Commissioner will be leaving a huge vacuum that will be very difficult to filled.

Special prayers were offered for the High Commissioner and members of his family.

Amb. Omaku Bids Farewell To Sierra Leone As He Ends His Tour Of Duty As A Diplomat With A Visit To President Julius Maada Bio.

As he ends his tour of duty as the High Commissioner of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the Republic of Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Amb. Henry John Omaku, Fcim, yesterday paid a farewell courtesy visit to the Sierra Leone President, His Excellency Brig. Julius Maada Bio (Rtd).

Amb. Omaku informed his host, that the visit was to inform him of his successful tour of duty as a High Commissioner in the country.

While thanking Amb. Omaku for the visit, the President expressed his sadness over the departure, describing it as sudden. President Julius Maada Bio however applauded Amb. Omaku's contribution in advancing both bilateral and multilateral cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Sierra Leone on one hand and other countries of the world.

Maada Bio stated that Amb. Omaku will be leaving behind, a very big shoe and hopes his successor will build on the achievements so far.

It would be recall that, Amb. Henry John Omaku was appointed by former President, His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari in 2020 and was posted to the Republic of Sierra in 2021.

His Excellency, Amb. Henry John Omaku, Fcim (Giwan Doma) yesterday, in company of the Sierra Leone Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Musa Timothy Kabba received a high powered delegation from the Federal Republic of Nigeria and ECOWAS Commission led by the Nigeria National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu who were on a solidarity visit to the Republic of Sierra Leone following last Sunday's attempted coup in the country.

The National Security Adviser and his entourage were in the Republic of Sierra at the instance of Nigeria's President and Chairman of ECOWAS Heads of States, His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

On the entourage of the National Security Adviser were the Nigeria’s Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Military Intelligence Major General Emmanuel Udiandeye, and President of the Ecowas Commission, Dr Omar Alieu Touray.

The Delegation, while meeting with the Sierra Leone President, His Excellency, Brigadier Gen. Julius Maada Bio, (Rtd ) reiterated the Nigeria and ECOWAS Member States' commitment towards preserving democracy and good governance across the sub-region. They equally assured the President of their readiness to work with the Government of Sierra Leone towards forestalling any future occurrence.

This year's event has as it theme; "Building Resilience: Sierra Leone and the United Nations".

Speaking on behalf of the Diplomatic Community, Amb. Omaku underscores the struggles and resilience of the Sierra Leone people even in the face of socioeconomic and political challenges.

Nigeria High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Amb. Henry John Omaku, Fcim, received in audience, a delegation from the Sierra Leone Ministry of Health led by the Honourable Minister, Dr. Austin H. Demby in his office at the Nigeria House today.

Discussions centred on strengthening relations between Nigeria and Sierra Leone in the area of healthcare delivery in Sierra Leone.

Earlier today, the Nigeria High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Amb. Henry John Omaku, Fcim, who is also the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, played host to the new U.S Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency, Bryant Hunt at the Nigeria House.
