The National Commission for Children (NCC) in collaboration with the Children's Forum Network (CFN) has embarked on a massive school sensitization and awareness raising drive to educate pupils on the newly enacted Child Rights Act 2025. This is aimed at increasing awareness among pupils, teachers and school authorities on children's rights and responsibilities under the new law.
The school sensitization, which takes the form of Assembly Talks will be conducted in ten (10) Junior and Senior Secondary Schools in Freetown from the 18th May to the 28th May 2026.
The targeted schools includes: Government Technical secondary school, Vine Memorial secondary school, Methodist Girls High School, E.B Williams Municipal Secondary School, St. Joseph's Secondary School, Sierra Leone Grammar School, Dr. S.M Broderick Municipal Secondary School, Standard International School, Limount College and Collegiate WAM School.
Seven (7) schools have been visited so far, and the campaign will continue in the remaining three (3) schools next week.
The discussions were focused on the key provisions of the Child Right Act 2025, including the Rights and Responsibilities of Children, Parents and the State as well as the additional mandate of the Commission for the promotion and protection of the rights and welfare of children in Sierra Leone in line with international, regional and national instruments and legal framework.
The various representatives from the Children's Forum Network during their presentations emphasized on the responsibilities of children as stated in the new law and encouraged their peers to always ensure they fulfill their responsibilities so as to become embassadors of positive behavior in society.
The sensitization sessions in all the schools were interactive as pupils were allowed to ask questions and to also make their own contributions to the discussions
