IDRC / CRDI met today with Mr. Ahmadou Al Aminou Lo, Minister of State attached to the President of the Republic of Senegal, in charge of Monitoring, Steering, and Evaluating Senegal’s National Transformation Agenda 2050.
This audience was followed by a working session with the Minister’s Chief of Staff, Prof. Omar Niang, the Director of Funding at the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, Prof. Penda Ba, and members of their respective departments.
The audience with the Minister and the subsequent discussions highlighted the importance the Government of Senegal places on research and innovation, both of which are embedded in Pillar 1, “A Competitive Economy,” of the national agenda.
In this context, discussions focused on several key areas, including:
• the importance of ensuring that the implementation of national priorities is grounded in impact, strategic alignment, and cross-sectoral coordination;
•the mobilization of the diaspora through a proposed contributory platform for diaspora researchers and international talent in support of national priorities.
These exchanges are part of the ongoing dialogue that CRDI en Afrique centrale et de l'Ouest | IDRC in West and Central Africa maintains with Senegalese institutional stakeholders on issues related to research and innovation, with a view to sharing experiences and identifying areas of convergence with national priorities.
