07/05/2021

Today a team from the State Revenue Authority led by the Deputy Commissioner General visited the Director General of the Ministry of Information and Communication to discuss and share experience and knowledge on revenue-related issues. Among other issues discussed include, but are not limited to; challenges facing the Ministry in terms of revenue mobilization and strategies to improve resource/revenue generation.

Some of the challenges highlighted include;

1) Interference by other institutions of the government particularly at the national level

2) Inability of the particular income generating units within the Ministry to operate due to circumstances beyond the Ministry's abilities e.g. lack of office space and the necessary facilities - the cases of Nile Printing Press, Directorate of Information and Central Equatoria News Agency

3) Inadequate knowledge and lack of creativity at departmental level vis-a-vis income generation

4) Unfavorable terms in contracts signed between the Ministry and private investors/institutions

Etc.

The proposed solutions include capacity building, reviving the income generating institutions, re-negotiating some of the contracts and reclaiming the rights of the Ministry to collect and manage revenues

The team from the Revenue Authority echoed a possibility of holding a workshop that will bring together representatives of the income generating institutions of the State government to discuss and come up with better ways of boosting the revenue base of the State government

It is thus, our hope as Ministry of Information and Communication to see this happen for the benefit of the State government as well as for the citizens of the State whose benefit would come inform of services
