Communities Arrive in Mabior-Yar Ahead of Peace Conference

The Communities from Apukjuwiir, Thony, Muok, and Bongo arrived in Mabior-Yar Payam today ahead of tomorrow’s peace conference. The gathering follows the earlier Malual-Muok conference and is part of an ongoing peace initiative.
The Local Community Chiefs Committee for Peace Initiative is conducting a rotational tour across Tonj South communities. The tour is aimed at engaging armed civilians and communities to end violence and embrace peace among themselves.
Today’s reception brought together government officials, community chiefs, Mijook-wuot, women, and representatives from across Tonj South County in Mabior-Yar Payam to participate in a peace rally. Upon arrival, the Apuk, Thony, Muok, and Bongo communities were warmly welcomed by Yar community.
During the welcoming event, Hon. Gordon Makuer Tiau, Commissioner of Tonj South County, commended the communities for accepting peace and unity despite recent destruction, grievances, and the loss of many lives caused by communal conflicts. He was echoed by Hon. John Garang Mabior Ater, former Minister of Sports, Youth and Culture, Warrap State, who urged those present to sustain the spirit of peace, reconciliation, and unity across Tonj South.
The immense conference is expected to officially commence tomorrow and will feature the sharing of peace messages and celebrations among the representatives in attendance.
