EL GHASSIM WANE PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO THE NATIONAL CABINET AFFAIRS MINISTER DR. MARTIN ELIA LOMURÖ

Juba, South Sudan — August 12, 2026: Former UN Special Representative and Head of the UN Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), Mr. El Ghassim Wane, today paid a courtesy visit to South Sudan’s Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö.

Mr. Wane is in South Sudan at the request of Anita Kiki Gbeho, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for South Sudan and Head of UNMISS, to conduct a rapid review of how UNMISS can adjust its priorities and activities to better respond to the country’s needs.

The review will examine how the Government and UNMISS can strengthen cooperation and create a conducive environment for the mission to effectively implement its mandate.

UNMISS’ key priorities include protecting civilians, promoting human rights, supporting the political process, and facilitating humanitarian assistance to vulnerable populations across South Sudan.

Yei Joint Stars Pay Courtesy Visit to Cabinet Affairs Minister Ahead of CECAFA Tournament

JUBA, July 14, 2026 – Yei Joint Stars Football Club, led by its President, Eng. Lemi William, on Tuesday paid a courtesy visit to the National Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö, as part of the club’s preparations for the upcoming CECAFA Women’s Regional Tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the importance of promoting women’s football in South Sudan, investing in young talent, and strengthening institutional support as the team prepares to represent the country at the regional championship, which kicks off on August 22, 2026.

Club officials emphasized that many of the players are balancing their football careers with education while aspiring to compete at higher levels. They noted that greater government support would not only enhance the team’s preparations but also contribute to the growth of women’s football across the country.

Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö commended Yei Joint Stars for their commitment to nurturing young female footballers and promoting women’s participation in sports. He expressed his moral support for the team and pledged to explore ways the government could help empower women through sports and support the club’s participation in the regional tournament.

Yei Joint Stars will represent South Sudan at the CECAFA Women’s Regional Tournament, scheduled to begin in Kigali, Rwanda, on August 22, 2026, where they will compete against some of the region’s top women’s football clubs.

Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö Reaffirms Government Commitment to 2026 Elections During Meeting with German Ambassador

JUBA, 7th May 2026 – The National Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Martin Elia Lomurö, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the December 2026 elections and continued cooperation with international partners during a meeting with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to South Sudan, H.E. Gregory Bledjian.

The courtesy visit focused on bilateral relations between South Sudan and Germany, peace and stability in the country, humanitarian access, and the ongoing political roadmap toward the 2026 general elections.

During the discussions, Ambassador Gregory Bledjian praised the longstanding relations Germany has maintained with South Sudan before and after independence, reiterating Germany’s continued support to the people of South Sudan through humanitarian and development assistance.

The German envoy also sought South Sudan’s support for Germany’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council, while advocating for the inclusion of two African countries as permanent members of the Council.

In response, Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö assured the Ambassador of South Sudan’s cooperation through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation regarding Germany’s quest at the United Nations Security Council.

The Minister further emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring humanitarian agencies are granted access to assist vulnerable communities affected by violence and conflict across the country.

Dr. Lomurö reiterated that the government remains committed to peaceful democratic processes and preparations for the December 2026 elections.

Turkey’s Ambassador to South Sudan Meets Lomurö to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

H.E. Amb. Metin Ergin, the Ambassador of Turkey to South Sudan, paid a courtesy visit to the National Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö, to discuss areas of cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations, taking into account the longstanding ties between South Sudan and the Government of Turkey. Discussions also centered on the need to ratify key treaties covering economic, trade, and investment cooperation, development, taxation, and the protection of investments.

Both parties emphasized that these agreements would form a crucial legal framework to enhance cooperation and should be ratified by the Transitional National Legislative Assembly of South Sudan and the Turkish Parliament.

United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative to South Sudan Meets Lomurö, Pledges Support for Peace and Elections

The National Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Martin Elia Lomurö, on Wednesday received the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to South Sudan Ms. Anita Kiki Gbeho, during a courtesy visit at his office in Juba.

Ms. Gbeho, who assumed office on April 10, 2026, formally introduced herself in her new role and reiterated the United Nations’ commitment to supporting peace, stability, and democratic processes in the country. She was appointed by United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres following the death of her predecessor, Nicholas Haysom, in March 2026.

The meeting discussed a range of issues, including the new mandate of UNMISS, which focuses on the protection of civilians, peacebuilding, and support to the peace process. The two leaders also exchanged views on the country’s future, including preparations for elections and how the United Nations can support ongoing efforts.

Dr. Lomurö welcomed the United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Representative and reaffirmed the government’s readiness to work closely with the United Nations in addressing the challenges facing the country and advancing sustainable peace.

The meeting ended on a positive note, with both sides expressing commitment to strengthening cooperation for the benefit of the people of South Sudan.
