H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, Governor of Warrap State, congratulated the Warrap State menโ€™s and womenโ€™s volleyball teams during their appreciation and thanksgiving meeting held at Twin Towers, Juba, on Sunday 23 August 2026.

The meeting celebrated the teamsโ€™ participation and achievement in the South Sudan Volleyball Federation Independence Cup โ€“ Inter-State Competition and honored individuals and institutions that supported them.

The gathering brought together players, team officials, supporters and government leadership to recognize the hard work, resilience and spirit demonstrated by both teams in the competition between Pibor Administrative Area and Warrap State.

Governor Bol Wek Agoth congratulated both the menโ€™s and womenโ€™s teams for their performance and for representing the state with dignity. He appreciated Madam Atong Mayuat Kuek for her contribution and for providing team kits that projected the image of Warrap State as a state of peace, progress, and development.

โ€œWe are honored by our girls for winning in volleyball,โ€ H.E stated. โ€œAs part of government support, a plot for investment will be allocated to the teams. Both teams must prepare well. It is an honor for Warrap State to be both host and a winning state next year for the Volleyball tournament.โ€

Madam Atong Mayuat Kuek, the Business Woman and Sponsor of the Warrap State Volleyball Teams, also addressed the gathering. She commended the players for their commitment, discipline and determination throughout the tournament.

Madam Atong encouraged the menโ€™s team to build on their experience and come back stronger to secure victory next time. She reaffirmed her unwavering support for sports development in Warrap State and pledged to continue lending a hand whenever needed.

Anger Madut Ayii, Captain of the Womenโ€™s Team, expressed gratitude for the support from the state government. She noted that despite challenges of limited equipment and inadequate training, the team, with the help of the Governor, fought gallantly and brought honor to Warrap State.

โ€œPlaying for home is the best thing ever and it is a legacy,โ€ she said. โ€œWe will keep training, and we believe the two trophies will be put on the table for Warrap State next year.โ€

She emphasized that the womenโ€™s team remained unique and represented the state with pride.

The Warrap State Volleyball Federation on the other hand extended its appreciation to the Government of Warrap State, sponsors, supporters and the people of Warrap for their solidarity.

In his concluding remarks, Governor Bol Wek called on the people of Warrap State to embrace peace and security, and urged the teams to serve as Ambassadors of Peace through Sports.

Saturday, August 22, 2026 - Juba

Governor of Warrap State, expressed the state governmentโ€™s sadness at the death of Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, whom he described as a distinguished South Sudanese economist, veteran public servant, senior technocrat, three-time Minister of Finance and Planning, and Chairperson of the Kuac Ayok Community Worldwide.

The Governor recalled academic achievements by Late Hon. Salvatore at the University of Liberia and the University of Birmingham, as well as his four-decade career in; humanitarian work, the old Sudan government, and independent South Sudan.

He noted that the late minister served as the longest-serving Undersecretary in the National Ministry of Finance and later as National Minister of Finance three times, representing South Sudan in engagements with international financial institutions, while highlighting his role in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, the 2010 elections, and the 2011 independence referendum, saying his financial decisions helped build South Sudanโ€™s institutions and made independence possible.

Governor Agoth further described him as a respected community leader and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Kuac Ayok community, the people of Warrap State, and all citizens of South Sudan.

He concluded that although Hon. Salvatore Garang Mabiordit is gone, his legacy and memories will remain, adding that heroes never die and praying that his soul rest in eternal peace.

The President issued the directive following a briefing on ongoing peace and conflict-resolution initiatives involving Gogrial East County in Warrap State and Jur River County in Western Bahr el Ghazal State.

H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth underscored the longstanding social, economic, and historical ties between the communities, noting that these shared connections provide a strong foundation for reconciliation and peaceful settlement of the dispute.

Following briefings from both Governors Agoth and Sheriff Daniel Sheriff, the state governments are moving to convene an inclusive peace and reconciliation conference involving community leaders, elders, women and youth.

The aim is to address immediate security concerns and longstanding grievances while leveraging their shared social and historical ties to secure a durable resolution.

Additionally, the governors urged media and social media users to promote responsible, unifying dialogue rather than inciting further conflict.

This critical peace initiative is more pronounced by its timing, especially as South Sudan prepares to conduct the 2026 general elections.

โ€œToday, the people of Warrap State join fellow countrymen and countrywomen to honor our fallen heroes who paid the price of our liberation with their lives.

We commemorate the death of our revolutionary leaders who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for our nationโ€™s independence, including; Dr. John Garang De Mabior, Cdr. Nyancigak Nyaciluk, Gen. Ngor Machiec amongst several others who lay today, in marked and unmarked graves.

The people of Warrap State are proud to have produced brilliant minds in the history of the Republic of South Sudan, like our Pan-Africanist and hero of democracy, William Deng Nhial, who championed our liberation and inspired a generation of leaders who fought for our independence.

We also treasure dearly, the immense contribution by our women who demonstrated courage and patriotism in the face of aggression, including those who joined Katiba banat (girls battalion) and many of whom perished in the frontlines alongside male soldiers, to free our nation.

H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth today attended a high level meeting, chaired by H.E. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, whereby the President directed the senior SPLM leaders to foster peace and prepare a conducive environment for successful conduct of South Sudan's general elections in December.

President Kiir instructed the party leadership to work closely with communities across the country to promote unity and support local authorities in ensuring that all citizens can participate in December 2026, general elections, freely, safely, and peacefully.

Present during the meeting included SPLM chairpersons from the states and administrative areas and the party's Secretary-General, Dr. Akol Paul Kordit.

In his speech, Governor Agoth immortalized the spark in May 16, 1983, ignited by Cdr Kerubino Kuanyin Bol which triggered the liberation struggle, together with the unmatched leadership by Late Dr. John Garang de Mabior, whose vision guided the Sudan People's Liberation Movement/Army (SPLM/A) until the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) in 2005, which eventually led to our independence.

The Governor also paid tribute to H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, incumbent President of the Republic of South for safely delivering the people of South Sudan towards our duly earned independence and proceeded to enlighten our communities that our enemy today is no longer oppression from outside, but hunger, economic dependency and internal division.

โ€‹H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth urged all the people of Warrap State to extend the same spirit and energy of the self-determination referendum into the forthcoming December 2026 elections, which shall mark a critical juncture in our sovereign journey as a country, as we transition from a history of conflict, into a future of stable democratic governance.

He re-affirmed commitment to peace, security and development, which is consistent with the SPLM Philosophy of taking towns to the people.

"In honor of all those who lost their lives for our independence and in memory of all the innocent civilians who died in senseless conflicts, such as the recent violence in Tonj North and Tonj South Counties, we are in pain as a State, nevertheless, as we pray and work towards peace on this historic day, I wish you all a happy independence day!" Stated Governor Agoth in his closing remarks.

H.E. Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, the Governor of Warrap State has arrived this morning to the National Capital, Juba, following invitation for an SPLM Leadership conference, ahead of the December 2026 elections.

The Governor was accompanied to Wau Airport by H.E. the Deputy Governor plus State Ministers. He was received at Juba International Airport by Warrap State Coordinator in Juba and other State Government officials.
