Opinion: My Response to Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth About What He Wrote on His page Regarding the Words Released Today by Mama Nyandeng De Mabior

Hon. Ezekiel Lol, if the current regime is not weak, I think you would not have been allowed to work under the administration of Salva Kiir Mayardit.

If people go back to the strong words you released in 2013 and 2014, you described Salva Kiir's government as a dictatorship. Today, you have positions in the same government and seem to have forgotten the pain of the past. What pained you in those years is the same pain that many South Sudanese are experiencing today.

You speak like this because you are in a government position. Let me tell you something: the government of Salva Kiir does not care whether you praise him or his whole family. Nothing remains permanent in his government.

People often speak bad words about the government when they are removed from their positions. But when they are still serving, they defend the same government and become angry when someone says something that paints them or their government in a bad way.

Mama Nyandeng De Mabior is a strong woman. Leave aside some of the wives of our liberators who remain silent and do not tell the citizens that their husbands have failed the country. Did you ever hear Mama Ayendit come out publicly and say that her husband has failed the country? Or have you heard other wives of leaders come out and tell the reality?

Hon. Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth, you should also remember your political history. You were among those who turned against Dr. Riek Machar Teny-Dhurgon, and the Nuer community has not forgotten that chapter of your political history.

When you are removed from your position, do not come later and speak bad words about the same government when you were part of it. If you believe there are problems in the country, you should have the courage to speak about them while you are still in the government.

Investigation Committee Demands Dr Benjamin Bol ARC Asset Records Within 72 Hours

The Investigation and Prosecution Committee in Central Equatoria State has formally requested the African Resources Corporation (ARC) to submit a full list of its vehicles and properties within 72 hours.

In a letter dated August 21, 2026, Acting Committee Chairman Maj. Gen. Basilio Thomas Wani said the request was made under Ministerial Order No. 1/2026 to support investigations and prosecution in Criminal Case No. 710/2026.

The committee cited the Code of Criminal Procedure Act, 2008, the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Act, and the Penal Code Act as the legal basis for the request.

The letter urged ARC’s Managing Director to provide the asset records promptly, citing the need to safeguard public financial integrity.

Unity State Rejects Allegations Over Bentiu IDP Camp Incident

The Unity State Government has rejected allegations that it deliberately targeted civilians during the August 19 incident at the Bentiu IDP Camp.

The government described claims of genocide and attacks against communities as unfounded and politically inflammatory.

It said a committee led by Governor Dr. Joseph Manytuil Wejang is investigating the incident to establish the facts and hold those responsible accountable.

The government also urged political actors and the media to avoid spreading unverified information that could fuel tensions, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting civilians and working with UNMISS and humanitarian partners.

JUBA, 20 August 2026 – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has issued a series of Republican Decrees making significant changes within the Revitalized Transitional Government of Lakes State, affecting senior government officials, state ministers, county commissioners, and members of independent commissions.
The decrees relieved several officials from their positions, including state ministers responsible for Cabinet Affairs, Information and Communication, Culture, Housing, Labour, and Education, as well as commissioners from Rumbek East, Rumbek North, Yirol West, and Awerial counties.
Among the new appointments, Makuac John Rong was named Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Rafael Bang Mayor was appointed Minister of Information and Communication, and Gabriel Maluac Yak became Minister of General Education and Instruction. New county commissioners were also appointed for Rumbek East, Rumbek North, Yirol West, and Awerial counties.
In a separate decree, Dominic Mabor Majok was appointed a Member of the Lakes State Legislative Assembly (LSA), replacing Rafael Bang Mayor, whose legislative seat was revoked following his ministerial appointment.
President Kiir thanked the outgoing officials for their service and wished the newly appointed officials success in their new roles. The changes take immediate effect.
