PARTY'S DEMOCRATIC VISION

The NFJD movement is founded upon the conviction that democracy must produce tangible improvements in the daily lives of citizens. We envision a constitutional democracy where the Constitution remains the supreme law of the Republic and where all public institutions operate within clearly defined legal limits.

We support genuine separation of powers among the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to ensure effective checks and balances.

We advocate for an independent, professional, and adequately resourced judiciary capable of administering justice impartially.

We believe elections must be credible, transparent, peaceful, inclusive, and administered by an independent electoral commission that enjoys public confidence.

Our vision includes electoral reforms that improve voter registration, strengthen election administration, increase transparency, and encourage broad citizen participation.

We support meaningful decentralization that empowers state and local governments with appropriate authority, resources, and accountability to address community needs.

Combating corruption remains central to our agenda. Public resources belong to the people and must be managed transparently, responsibly, and in accordance with the law. We support stronger financial oversight, open procurement systems, asset declaration requirements where appropriate, and effective anti-corruption institutions.

We envision professional, non-partisan security institutions dedicated to protecting all citizens equally while respecting constitutional authority and human rights.

No nation reaches its full potential while excluding half of its population from leadership and decision-making.

Democracy as the Foundation of Peace, Unity, and Prosperity.

The future of every nation is determined not merely by the wealth beneath its soil or the strength of its military, but by the quality of its institutions, the participation of its citizens, and the legitimacy of its government. At the heart of these pillars lies democracy. a system of governance that places the people at the center of national decision-making and ensures that political authority is exercised through the rule of law, accountability, and respect for human dignity.

Democracy is more than periodic elections. It is a culture of participation, constitutional governance, equal opportunity, and responsible leadership. It recognizes that every citizen has inherent worth and deserves an equal voice in shaping the destiny of the nation.

Nation-building, on the other hand, is the deliberate process of creating a peaceful, united, prosperous, and resilient society where citizens identify first with their nation rather than with divisions of ethnicity, region, or political affiliation. It requires trust, justice, inclusive institutions, and a shared national vision.

For South Sudan, the world's youngest sovereign nation, democracy is not simply one political option among many. It is the most sustainable path toward lasting peace, national reconciliation, accountable governance, economic transformation, and social justice.

Our generation has a historic responsibility to build a republic founded not on fear or exclusion, but on freedom, justice, equality, and opportunity for every citizen.

THE CURRENT POLITICAL LANDSCAPE OF SOUTH SUDAN

Since gaining independence in 2011, South Sudan has experienced moments of great hope alongside periods of profound hardship. The aspirations of our people for peace, freedom, and development have often been challenged by political instability, conflict, institutional weaknesses, economic hardship, and limited public confidence in state institutions.

These challenges have slowed national development, displaced communities, weakened public services, and limited economic opportunities for millions of citizens.

Weak institutions, corruption, insufficient accountability, political exclusion, and recurring tensions have made it difficult to build the stable democratic foundations envisioned at independence. Many young people continue to face unemployment, inadequate educational opportunities, and limited prospects despite the country's enormous natural wealth.

Yet these realities should not diminish hope. Rather, they should strengthen our collective determination to pursue reforms that build stronger institutions, deepen democratic governance, and expand opportunities for all citizens.

South Sudan possesses extraordinary human potential, abundant natural resources, and a resilient people. With effective leadership and inclusive democratic institutions, these strengths can become the foundation of national renewal.

WHY DEMOCRACY MATTERS

Democracy matters because it recognizes that government exists to serve the people, not the other way around.

A democratic society protects constitutional rights, including freedom of expression, freedom of association, freedom of religion, and equal protection under the law. It ensures that every citizen, regardless of ethnicity, gender, religion, region, or economic status, has an equal opportunity to participate in public life.

Democracy strengthens accountability by requiring leaders to answer to the people for their decisions and performance. Independent institutions, transparent public finance, and effective oversight reduce opportunities for corruption and improve public trust.

Equally important, democracy provides peaceful mechanisms for resolving political differences. Elections, dialogue, independent courts, and constitutional institutions offer alternatives to violence and create confidence that political change can occur peacefully.

The rule of law ensures that no individual is above the Constitution. Laws apply equally to leaders and citizens alike, providing predictability, fairness, and justice.

In a nation as culturally rich and diverse as South Sudan, democracy also promotes inclusion by respecting diversity while strengthening national unity around shared citizenship.

DEMOCRACY AS THE FOUNDATION OF NATION BUILDING

Successful nation-building requires more than infrastructure or economic growth. It requires citizens who trust one another and believe that their government represents everyone fairly. Democracy helps build national unity by creating equal political space for all communities and encouraging citizens to see themselves first as South Sudanese united by a common future.

It promotes peaceful coexistence through dialogue, compromise, and constitutional processes rather than violence. Strong democratic institutions including Parliament, the judiciary, local governments, public service institutions, and oversight bodies provide continuity, stability, and confidence for future generations.

Economically, democratic governance encourages domestic entrepreneurship and international investment by strengthening legal certainty, protecting property rights, improving transparency, and reducing corruption.

Democracy also advances social justice by ensuring equitable access to education, healthcare, infrastructure, employment opportunities, and public services.

Perhaps most importantly, democracy rebuilds public trust. Citizens become active partners in governance rather than passive observers of political decisions.

LESSONS FROM SUCCESSFUL DEMOCRACIES

History demonstrates that nations can overcome conflict through democratic reform and institutional development. Countries across different regions of the world have shown that constitutional governance, independent institutions, investment in education, professional public administration, and inclusive political participation can transform societies over time.

These experiences remind us that democracy is not built overnight. It requires patience, commitment, national dialogue, respect for diversity, and continuous institutional strengthening.

South Sudan should draw inspiration from international experiences while developing democratic institutions that reflect our own history, cultures, traditions, and aspirations. Our democracy must be authentically South Sudanese while embracing universal principles of human dignity, accountability, justice, and equality before the law.

CHALLENGES FACING DEMOCRACY IN SOUTH SUDAN

The path toward a mature democracy is not without obstacles. Political polarization, ethnic mistrust, weak public institutions, corruption, poverty, youth unemployment, inadequate civic education, and limited institutional capacity continue to affect democratic development.

Electoral systems require strengthening to inspire confidence among citizens. Local government institutions need greater capacity and resources to deliver essential services effectively.

Independent oversight institutions, including those responsible for combating corruption and promoting accountability, require continued strengthening. Many citizens also need greater access to civic education so they understand both their democratic rights and their responsibilities as active participants in governance.

Recognizing these challenges is not an admission of defeat. It is the first step toward designing practical solutions that move the nation forward.

South Sudan stands at a defining moment in its history. Since gaining independence in 2011, our nation has demonstrated remarkable resilience despite enormous political, economic, and social challenges. The aspirations that inspired our struggle for self-determination remain alive in the hearts of our people: a peaceful nation governed by justice, equality, and opportunity for all. Achieving that vision requires one fundamental commitment. good governance and accountability.

Good governance is the responsible, transparent, and lawful exercise of public authority for the benefit of all citizens. Accountability ensures that those entrusted with public office answer for their decisions, manage public resources honestly, and remain servants of the people. Together, these principles form the foundation of sustainable peace, democratic governance, economic prosperity, social justice, and national stability.

As the Chairman of NATIONAL FRONT FOR JUSTICE & DEMOCRACY-NFJD.a newly established political movement dedicated to national renewal, I believe South Sudan deserves a new political culture, one built not on division, but on unity; not on personal interests, but on public service; and not on promises alone, but on measurable results.

Since independence, South Sudan has made notable progress in establishing national institutions, expanding access to education and healthcare in many areas, engaging in peace processes, and strengthening its presence within the international community. These achievements deserve recognition and provide a foundation upon which we can build.

However, our nation continues to face significant challenges. Political polarization, weak public institutions, corruption, limited transparency, economic hardship, unemployment, insecurity, and inadequate public services have slowed our national progress. Tribal divisions have too often overshadowed our shared identity as one people, while many citizens continue to struggle with poverty despite our country's abundant natural resources.

These realities should not discourage us; rather, they should inspire us to pursue meaningful reforms that strengthen our institutions and restore public confidence.

Good governance begins with respect for the rule of law. Every citizen and every public official must be equal before the law, regardless of status or influence. Constitutionalism must guide political leadership, ensuring that power is exercised within legal limits and democratic principles.

Transparency must become the standard in public administration. Citizens have the right to know how public resources are collected, managed, and spent. Accountability requires leaders to explain their decisions and accept responsibility for their actions. Inclusive governance ensures that women, youth, persons with disabilities, and all communities participate meaningfully in national decision-making.

Integrity, ethical leadership, respect for human rights, responsiveness to public needs, and efficient public administration are not abstract ideals. They are practical principles that improve public services, encourage investment, create jobs, reduce poverty, and strengthen national unity.

Accountability is the cornerstone of national development. Political leaders must answer to the people through democratic institutions and regular elections. Parliament must exercise effective oversight of the Executive. An independent judiciary must uphold justice without fear or favour. Independent oversight bodies, public audits, anti-corruption institutions, and a free and responsible media all play indispensable roles in ensuring that public power is exercised responsibly.

Leadership is not about ruling over citizens; it is about serving them with humility, honesty, and integrity. Public office is a sacred trust that carries responsibility, not privilege.

The NFJD government will be committed to building a South Sudan where honesty replaces corruption, competence replaces patronage, and national unity rises above tribal identity. We envision strong democratic institutions, an independent judiciary, a professional civil service based on merit, and equal opportunities for every citizen.

We are committed to transforming our economy through agriculture, industrial development, entrepreneurship, responsible management of natural resources, and digital innovation. We will invest in quality education, modern healthcare, infrastructure, environmental protection, and technology to prepare our nation for the future. Young people and women will be empowered as equal partners in national development because no country can prosper while excluding the talents of the majority of its population.

Our policy commitments are practical and measurable. The NFJD will pursue zero tolerance for corruption through independent anti-corruption institutions, transparent public procurement, annual asset declarations by senior public officials, digital public financial management systems, and open government initiatives that allow citizens to monitor public spending.

We will reform the civil service to promote professionalism and merit. Judicial reforms will strengthen the independence and efficiency of our courts. Electoral reforms will enhance public confidence in democratic processes. Security sector reforms will promote professionalism, accountability, and respect for human rights. Greater decentralization will empower local governments to respond more effectively to community needs while supporting inclusive economic growth, investment, job creation, and improved social services.

National unity remains our greatest priority. South Sudan belongs equally to every citizen, regardless of ethnicity, religion, gender, language, or region. Our diversity is a national strength that should unite rather than divide us. The NFJD will promote reconciliation, peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and equal citizenship under one Constitution and one national flag.

The future of South Sudan cannot be built by political leaders alone. Every citizen has a responsibility to participate in democracy, reject corruption, protect public resources, promote peace, respect the Constitution, vote responsibly, and contribute positively to community development. Strong nations are built through active citizenship and shared responsibility.

The leaders our country needs must embody integrity, honesty, humility, patriotism, competence, transparency, accountability, and selfless service. Leadership should inspire trust, respect the rule of law, and place the interests of future generations above personal ambition.

South Sudan's greatest days are still ahead. We possess resilient people, abundant natural resources, youthful energy, and the determination to overcome every challenge before us. By embracing good governance and accountability, we can build a peaceful, democratic, united, and prosperous nation where every citizen enjoys dignity, opportunity, and justice.

Five-day-old baby shot in the head after attack that killed his family to be transferred to Juba for specialized treatment

A five-day-old baby boy who survived a brutal attack that claimed the lives of his parents and three-year-old sister in Tonj East County is expected to be transferred to Juba for specialized medical care.

Efforts to airlift the infant, identified as Deng Manyiel Deng, are currently underway, with well-wishers mobilizing support to ensure he receives further treatment.

Deng Dut Parek, who is coordinating the transfer, said arrangements are being made with health authorities and the child’s caretakers to move the baby from Tonj to Wau before flying him to Juba. However, logistical challenges remain after doctors recommended that the infant be transported in a specialized ambulance accompanied by medical personnel.

According to Dr. Dut David Alir, the baby underwent successful surgery and is now in stable condition, but requires advanced medical attention available in Juba.

The infant sustained a gunshot wound to the head during an attack at Thiok Kuil cattle camp on Saturday night. Reports indicate that two armed men opened fire on a family sleeping under a mosquito net, killing the baby’s father, mother and three-year-old sister.

The attackers reportedly fled the scene without stealing any cattle. Authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident, although residents suspect the killings may have been motivated by revenge.

Parek said flight tickets have already been secured for the baby and one caretaker, but the transfer will depend on securing appropriate transportation to Wau.

“Both of his parents were killed just five days after his birth. We must do everything possible to give him a second chance at life,” Parek said, appealing to the public to keep the child in their prayers.

The tragic incident has sparked sympathy and support from members of the public, who are rallying behind efforts to save the infant’s life.
