Call for Urgent Help: South Sudan Veteran Sabino Makana Akol Lies Ill in Wau
Hon. Sabino Makana Akol, former Commissioner of Tonj East County and former Deputy Governor of Warrap State, is critically ill in Wau without access to medical care.
A veteran of the liberation struggle, Makana Akol is also the architect of Kuajok’s urban planning initiative—the only state capital in South Sudan that was fully surveyed from the outset. He suffered a stroke 8 years ago, and his family has struggled to sustain his treatment locally. Unlike many of his former comrades, he has not received advanced care abroad.
His service spans both the liberation war and post-independence administration. Yet today, he remains neglected as newer SPLM members rise and veterans fade from view.
It is the nation’s duty to remember and care for its veterans. While Tonj community leaders may be occupied, this appeal is made publicly to reach the Presidency, the SPLM Secretary General Cde Akol Paul Koordit, and all concerned authorities.
South Sudan must not forget those who built it.
