‎Aweil East County Health Department Hosts High-Level Meeting on Health Facility Construction and Renovation

‎The Aweil East County Health Department, under the leadership of Mr. Wol Kuac Wol, County Health Director, convened a high-level coordination meeting with a delegation from UNICEF and Malaria Consortium to discuss the implementation of Phase One of a health infrastructure improvement project in the county.
‎
‎The meeting was led by Mr. Dugan Guot, Director General of the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Health, who reaffirmed the State Ministry's commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services through improved health infrastructure.
‎
‎The three Primary Health Care Units (PHCUs) were selected for Phase One of the project:
‎
‎1.Amoth Akok PHCU – Renovation of the existing health facility and construction of a new incinerator.
‎2.Riang Aketh PHCU – Construction of a new health facility and a new incinerator.
‎3.Mabior Wundiing PHCU – Construction of a new health facility and a new incinerator.
‎
‎The meeting was attended by Hon. Benson UpuothMalo, Chairperson of the Health Specialized Committee in the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Legislative Assembly, representatives from UNICEF and Malaria Consortium, and staff of the Aweil East County Health Department.
‎
‎In his remarks, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol welcomed the partners and appreciated UNICEF, Malaria Consortium, and the State Ministry of Health for their continued support to the health sector in Aweil East County.
He noted that the planned construction and renovation of the selected PHCUs will improve access to quality healthcare services, strengthen infection prevention and control through the provision of the incinerators, and enhance the overall working environment for health workers.

‎The meeting concluded with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to ensure the timely implementation and successful completion of the Phase One infrastructure project for the benefit of our people.

‎Wol Kuac Wol, the County Health Director of Aweil East County Health Department, has officially launched a Mobile Clinic in Mook Abiik Village , aimed at improving access to essential health services for underserved communities.
‎
‎The Mobile Clinic was established with support from Christian Solidarity International (CSI).
‎The CSI team was led by Mr. Frango Wol Majok, Country Project Coordinator, and Mr. Garang Kenyang, Field Coordinator.
‎
‎Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol expressed gratitude to CSI for responding to the health needs of people in Mook Abiik village.
‎
‎He said today marks an important day for the people of Mook Abiik.
For a long time our people have been walking long distances to access health care.
‎This Mobile Clinic will bring services closer to mothers, children, and the elderly.
‎I call on the community to own this clinic and work with the health workers.
‎
‎Mr. Frango Wol Majok, CSI Country Project Coordinator, said CSI remains committed to supporting the Ministry of Health in delivering life-saving services and other activities.
‎
‎We are here because we believe that health is a right for everyone.
‎Through this Mobile Clinic, we want to reduce preventable deaths and improve maternal and child health in Aweil East.
‎
‎Mr. Garang Kenyang, CSI Field Coordinator, noted that the clinic will operate on a scheduled basis and will be supported with medicines, medical supplies, and trained health workers in coordination with the County Health Department.
‎
‎Community leaders and residents of Mook Abiik village welcomed the initiative, saying it will reduce transport costs and delays in seeking treatment and appreciate the initiator for the health services to our communities.
‎
‎
‎The County Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to work closely with partners like CSI to expand health service coverage across all payams in Aweil East County.

‎On 30 June 2026, the County Medical Officer of Aweil East, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol, officiated the opening of the Long-Lasting Insecticidal Net (LLIN) Training in preparation for the implementation of the upcoming malaria prevention campaign.
‎
‎In his opening remarks, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol welcomed the participants and emphasized the importance of the training in strengthening malaria prevention and control efforts across Aweil East County.
‎He noted that malaria continues to be a major public health challenge and stressed that the proper distribution and use of long-lasting insecticidal nets are essential in reducing malaria-related illness and deaths, particularly among children under five years of age and pregnant women.
‎
‎He encouraged all participants to actively participate in the training, adhere to the campaign guidelines, and apply the knowledge and skills gained during the sessions to ensure the successful implementation of the LLIN campaign in their respective communities.
‎
‎The training brought together supervisors,Site managers ,Registers and social mobilisors.
‎The sessions focused on campaign planning, household registration, community mobilization, proper net distribution procedures, data management, supervision, and reporting.
‎
‎The County Health Department reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Ministry of Health and implementing partners to ensure a successful LLIN campaign and to strengthen malaria prevention efforts in Aweil East County.

‎The Aweil East County Health Department team, led by Mr. Wol Kuac Wol, the County Health Director, participated in a debriefing and update meeting on date 3/July 2026 at Aweil Grand Hotel.
‎
‎The meeting was organized to share findings and recommendations from the supervision session conducted by the Project Management Unit [PMU].
‎
‎The debriefing was facilitated by the National Ministry of Health and the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Health.
‎

‎On 3 July 2026, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol, County Medical Officer of Aweil East County, presented the 2026/2027 Annual Operational Plan during a three-day workshop convened at Aweil Grand Hotel.
‎
‎The workshop was organized by the National Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Northern Bahr el Ghazal State Ministry of Health and was facilitated by Dr. Joseph Giir, Director for Planning and Budgeting at the National Ministry of Health.
‎The workshop brought together county health management teams and key health partners, including IRC, HealthNet, WHO, and the Malaria Consortium, to review, discuss, and validate county annual operational plans.
‎
‎During his presentation, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol highlighted Aweil East County's health priorities, planned interventions, strategic objectives, and resource requirements for the 2026/2027 operational year.

‎The County Health Department of Aweil East has received with profound sorrow and deep sadness the news of the passing of the late Mr. Peter Dut Thiep, the Senior Director for Administration and Finance at the State Ministry of Health.
‎
‎On behalf of the management and staff of the County Health Department of Aweil East, we extend our heartfelt and sincere condolences to his beloved family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and the entire staff of the State Ministry of Health during this time of great loss.
‎
‎The late Mr. Peter Dut Thiep was a dedicated, humble, and committed public servant whose exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to strengthening the health system made a lasting impact on the people of our state. His professionalism, integrity, and service to humanity will always be remembered and appreciated.
‎

‎RE: Hairy Caterpillar(mathiang anyoor)Infestation in Aweil East County
‎
‎The Aweil East County Health Department is aware of reports regarding an increased presence of caterpillars across multiple payams in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
‎We are actively monitoring the situation in coordination with the State Ministry of Health, Ministry of Agriculture, and humanitarian partners.
‎
‎Current Situation
‎Large numbers of caterpillars have been observed in various villages of Aweil East affecting farmland, grazing areas, and residential compounds.
While species identification is ongoing, the primary concern is the impact on food security and potential health risks.
‎
‎Health & Safety Risks
‎1. Skin irritation: Contact with certain caterpillar species or their hairs can cause rashes, itching, or allergic reactions.
‎2. Food safety: Caterpillars may contaminate stored grain and vegetables. Do not consume food that has been heavily infested.
‎3. Water sources: Avoid drinking from open water sources where caterpillars are present without proper treatment.
‎4. Crop damage: The infestation poses a threat to household food supplies and livelihoods.
‎
‎The Health Department urges residents to:
‎Avoid direct contact with caterpillars.
‎If contact occurs, wash skin with soap and water.
‎Seek care at the nearest health facility if you develop severe rash, swelling.
‎Protect food and water: Cover stored grains and drinking water containers.
‎Boil or treat water before drinking.
‎Do not use unapproved pesticides on food crops or in homes.
‎Improper chemical use can cause poisoning.

We would like to inform the general public, especially our youths, that the misuse of tramadol is harmful to your health.
Tramadol is a strong painkiller that should only be used with a prescription from a qualified health professional.

Using tramadol without medical guidance can lead to addiction, serious side effects, mental health problems, seizures, and even death.
Some young people wrongly believe it increases energy and strength, but in reality it damages the body and affects the future of our youth.

We therefore urge the public and all young people to avoid using tramadol and any other drugs without medical advice for the sake of your health and wellbeing.

‎Newly Appointed County Medical Officer Holds First Coordination Meeting with Health Partners

‎The newly appointed County Medical Officer of Aweil East County Health Department, Wol Kuac Wol, conducted his first coordination meeting with health partners on Wednesday, 6th May 2026 at the County Health Department.
‎
‎The meeting brought together key health partner organizations including the International Rescue Committee (IRC), ForAfrika, Action Against Hunger (ACF), ALIMA, and the World Health Organization (WHO).
‎
‎In his opening remarks, Mr. Wol Kuac Wol expressed appreciation to all partners for their continued collaboration and support to the county health system.
‎He emphasized the importance of strong coordination, teamwork, and information sharing to improve health service delivery across Aweil East County.
‎He highlighted priority areas including strengthening primary healthcare services, improving immunization coverage, enhancing disease surveillance, and supporting community-based health programs.
‎
‎During the meeting, the Health Manager of IRC pledged the organization’s strong commitment to continue supporting the County Health Department in delivering quality health services.
