Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel‑Selvaratnam, met with Mike Fazackerley from Air Safety Support International (ASSI) who is in the Turks and Caicos Islands to conduct an aviation security audit.

The discussion focused on maintaining compliance with international aviation security standards and identifying areas for continued strengthening of oversight and capability. Honouring the life and legacy of Lieutenant Colonel Nimrol Devon Beckles; Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, joined the Honourable Premier Charles Washington Misick OBE, Cabinet Ministers, past and present members of Parliament, the uniformed services, cadets, family and loved ones in paying final respects to the late Commandant of the Turks and Caicos Islands Cadet Corps.
During the service, Her Excellency delivered remarks reflecting on Lieutenant Colonel Beckles’ lasting contribution to youth development, national service and leadership across the Turks and Caicos Islands and the wider Caribbean. His legacy of discipline, mentorship and dedication to service will continue to inspire generations to come.

The first State of Preparedness Meeting for the 2026 Atlantic Hurricane Season was chaired by Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, bringing together key government officials, national stakeholders and emergency response partners ahead of the start of the hurricane season on 1 June.

The meeting included representatives from across Government, including the DDME, Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, Turks and Caicos Islands Regiment, healthcare and emergency services, alongside utility and critical infrastructure leads. Discussions focused on national readiness, shelter preparedness, continuity of essential services, inter-agency coordination and response planning for the 2026 hurricane season.

Her Excellency emphasised the importance of proactive preparation, coordination and public awareness to ensure the Turks and Caicos Islands remains ready and resilient throughout the season.

Regional cooperation in correctional services was the focus this week as the Turks and Caicos Islands welcomed a visit from the Commissioner of Corrections for the Commonwealth of The Bahamas Mr Doan P. Cleare, who is also the President of the Association of Caribbean Heads of Corrections and Prison Services. The programme centred on a visit to HMP Grand Turk, which is emerging as a leader of best practice with its rehabilitation farm initiative, demonstrating a clear focus on vocational skills development, responsibility and reintegration. A courtesy call on the Governor complemented the visit, supporting wider discussion on training and regional knowledge-sharing.

Discussions focused on building on progress, including modernisation, improved court efficiency and case progression, and strengthened stakeholder collaboration, to reinforce public confidence in the rule of law.

Civil Aviation safety was the focus as Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, welcomed Captain Paul Thomas to his new role as Managing Director of the Turks and Caicos Islands Civil Aviation Authority, alongside the Minister for Public Safety, Hon. Shaun Malcolm.

Captain Thomas brings extensive practical aviation experience and insight to the role, having joined the Civil Aviation Department in October 2000 following 16 years as a Commercial Pilot.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the continued strengthening of the civil aviation regulatory regime, to ensure security and safety standards across our aviation sector.
