Taking part in CARIFESTA XV in Barbados (August 22โ31, 2025) was more than just a cultural exchange for the Turks and Caicos Islands - it was the beginning of something truly special.
Led by the Department of Culture, our delegation proudly represented the islands, including three outstanding student ambassadors:
โขAโnavia Mantock - HJ Robinson High School (Grand Turk)
โขAkili Francis - Marjorie Basden High School (South Caicos)
โขBrentanae Smith - Raymond Gardiner High School (North Caicos)
Through the Youth Jamboree, these students experienced a โclassroom without walls,โ connecting with Caribbean peers and celebrating our shared identity.
And now, we are proud to celebrate an incredible achievement!
Akili Francis has won FIRST PLACE in the โEchoes of Us โ Our Voice. Our Vibe.โ competition in the Music Songwriting Category!
His winning piece, โRip Saw Music - Festival of Roots and Rhythm,โ was inspired by his journey to CARIFESTA XV. What began as just a flight became a powerful reminder: we arrive as strangers, but we always leave as family.
Rooted in authentic Turks and Caicos Rip Saw music, his composition beautifully blends our national identity with the wider Caribbean spirit - celebrating unity, heritage, and pride.
โDifferent nations, one Caribbean, one heart.โ
Join us in congratulating Akili on this outstanding accomplishment! His success is a testament to the talent, creativity, and cultural pride of our youth.
The legacy of CARIFESTA XV lives on - and Turks and Caicos continues to make its mark on the regional stage.
