MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) จากสมเด็จพระราชินีนาถเอลิซาเบธที่ 2 ประจำปีพ.ศ. 2565
We are delighted to announce that Mr. Ben Svasti Thomson, our British Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai has been awarded an Order of the British Empire, MBE, by HM The Queen in the New Year Honours 2022 for services to British nationals overseas.
"For over 40 years, in Thailand, I have worked in humanitarian projects as a social worker in fields ranging from refugee camps, HIV/AIDS, women’s rights, child protection and combating human trafficking. My heart has always been in helping those less fortunate than myself, indeed I see offering compassion to those in hardship as a duty, as an obligation. Before I became Honorary British Consul, I had been helping the disadvantaged from Thailand, Cambodia and Myanmar. I had assumed that British residents and tourists were relatively privileged and did not require help. But how wrong I was. Within months of becoming Honorary Consul, I was helping British nationals who were in desperate need, many far worse off than local Thais.
"As I work to help these British nationals facing terrible hardship, in any way I can, I discover a compassion in myself to help, which in turn energises me and acts as a driving force to steer and sustain my own life. Also being half-Thai half British, I have unique gifts and connections which I can bring into play to best help those in hardship in comprehensive ways which may not be open to others. These are the passions which drive my work as British Honorary Consul in Chiang Mai."
The British Embassy Bangkok would like to congratulate Khun Ben for his well-deserved award and thank you for his dedication to serving British nationals in Thailand.
