Celebration of SIlk 2019
This Saturday we celebrated Thai silk at the magnificent show “Celebration of Silk”
Ambassadors, embassy representatives and spouses from all over the world were dressed in silk from top to toe as they were walking the catwalk 💃🏼🕺🏼
The event provides a unique opportunity for young talented Danish designers to develop their skills for working with Thai silk and for having their creations tested in front of a international audience. At the same time, it allows for exploring posibilities for cooperation between Thai and Danish design communities.
The Danish ambassador Uffe Wolffhechel and wife Susie A. Ruff were for the second time dressed by designer Nickie Geneser Bach.
Nickie's enthusiasm and creativity knows no boundaries, and neither does her ideas for using Thai silk as a fabric.
If you want to hear Nickie’s thoughts on the clothing, watch the video below 👇🏽👇🏽

International Women's Day 2019
Today, the Royal Danish Embassy stand together in support of International Women’s Day, 2019. 💪
Watch our video and show some love! 😁
It is said that: “A single moment can spark a revolution, collective actions can transform laws, creative expression can change attitudes, and an invention can alter the course of history.”
The theme for International Women’s Day 2019 is “Better the balance, better the world” and encourages actions towards driving gender balance worldwide.
This day is dedicated to the celebration and reflection on the progress towards promoting and protecting women’s equality and human rights, across cultures and generations.
Women in Thailand were the first in Asia to achieve the right of suffrage in 1932. 🇹🇭
Likewise, Danish women achieved the right to vote in 1915 and in 2018, Denmark was among the top three countries to live in as a woman. 🇩🇰
Denmark has come a long way in securing women’s rights, and we continue to have great focus on the importance of equality.
The Royal Danish Embassy supports women’s rights.
Together, we stand stronger. 🙏

Denmark's official showroom for green solutions, House of Green, has opened in Copenhagen! ☘️🌿
House of Green is a visitor centre/showroom aiming to exhibit Denmark's navigation towards a carbon-neutral and resource efficient world, by presenting an array of Danish green solutions that address critical global challenges.
Being the patron of 'State of Green', the organisation behind House of Green, HRH Crown Prince Frederik was, on February 5th, gathered alongside two Danish ministers, the Lord Mayor of Copenhagen, business leaders, foreign ambassadors in Denmark and civil servants, to mark the official launch of the newly renovated House of Green.
The inexorable rise in CO2 emissions represents a significant challenge to our environment. Therefore, Copenhagen is to be the first carbon neutral capital in the world, by 2025. This means that Copenhagen has committed to making new buildings net-zero carbon by 2030, and to make existing buildings net-zero carbon by 2050. 💪🌿🏢
🇹🇭 Thailand has also joined fellow nations in addressing the issue of global warming. For instance, several Thai cities have implemented the "Low Carbon City"-initiative, and green buildings in Thailand have more than doubled annually, since 2007.
We celebrate any step taken to create sustainable hence prosperous societies!

A wonderful week filled with Thai-Danish history in trade!🇹🇭🇩🇰
Last week, the Danish Embassy has the honour of welcoming Dr.Phil Morten Pedersen, Head of Department at Nordjylland Historical Museum. Morten Pedersen visited Bangkok in order to present the unique historic cooperation between the Danish company FLSmidth & Co. and the Thai company Siam Cement Group (SCG). Morten knows this story better than most as the case is a part of his thesis: “When China awakens … Danish Multinational Business in Asia up to the Second World War”, which he defended for the dr.phil. degree.
This study draws on a large pool of personal correspondences from the first director of SCG, Oscar Schultz, and uncovers how he and the influence from FLSmidth-management in Copenhagen were formative to the establishment of SCG and hereby also influenced the business culture in Thailand from early on. By 1913, FLSmidth & Co’s first technology transfer to The Siam Cement Co. (now SCG) took place, and a close cooperation between the two companies have lasted until present day.
During the week Morten Pedersen presented the story to different audiences, e.g. an open event Monday arranged by the Danish Embassy in cooperation with the Danish-Thai Champer of Commerce. Thursday evening signed FLSmidth and SCG a MoU agreement in continuation of 105 years of cooperation. A great example of Thai-Danish commercial partnership.
Morten Pedersen’s visit was part of the celebrating the 160 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand & Denmark.

Sold out Danish film screening at the EU Film Festival! 🇩🇰🎬❤️
Yesterday, around 100 people attended the screening of the Danish contribution to the EU Film Festival, “The Commune”. The open-air screening took place in the garden of the Danish Residence where people could enjoy drinks and popcorn 🌳🍿
Ambassador Mr. Uffe Wolffhechel said a few words about the surroundings and the film before the screening begun and the many excited film lovers could watch instructor Thomas Vinterberg’s portrayal of the lives of a fun and warm yet dysfunctional group of people living in a commune in 1970’s Denmark.
On Wednesday, the Embassy had the honour of welcoming Ms. Pia Olsen Dyhr, member of the Danish Parliament (Folketinget) and political leader of the Socialist People’s Party.
At the embassy, Pia met with old colleagues and friends since she also earlier served as the Danish Minister for Trade and Investment. Due to Pia’s background, she had both a strong interest and understanding of the work at the Embassy’s departments. The Ambassador, Mr. Uffe Wolffhechel, and Deputy Head of Mission, Anders L. Graugaard, briefed her on the political situation in Thailand as well as the unique and fascinating Danish-Thai relations.
Afterwards, there was also time for a visit to the historic headquarters of the East Asiatic Company that dates back to 1884, where the Danish Captain H. N. Andersen started the successful teak exporting company. A great day with story and knowledge sharing!
By the way: Happy birthday today, Pia 🙂🇩🇰🇹🇭
Yesterday’s evening was dedicated to discussions and knowledge sharing within an Expert Forum focusing on “Innovation and Diagnostics-Pathway to Improve Dengue Patient Management in Thailand” 🦟🇹🇭🇩🇰
The event was a result of a cooperation between BluSense Diagnotics ApS, an innovative Point-of-Care (PoC) diagnostics company in Denmark, its business partner in Thailand, General Science Enterprise Co. Ltd., and the Danish Embassy. The Expert Forum comprises government officials from Ministry of Public Health, physicians and infectious and vector borne disease experts.
The evening consisted of reviewing recent developments in solutions that improve the early diagnosis of dengue infection and active discussions of the potential impact and benefits these solutions could bring to dengue patient management in Thailand. The inspection of dengue is a highly relevant topic for Thailand. According to the Ministry of Public Health (Thailand), 61,917 people have fallen ill because of the dengue virus since the beginning of the year till September 2018, with 80 of them having died as a result. In order to decrease the mortality rate, it is important to be able to diagnose patients in an early stage of the dengue fever, so that the right dengue treatment is given in time.
Danish Christmas came to Bangkok yesterday 🎁🎄🍪
This year's Danish Christmas Bazar co-hosted by the Danish Church (Dansk Kirke Thailand) and the Danish Women's Network was a huge success with around 500 participants throughout the day!
The Danish Ambassador, Mr. Uffe Wolffhechel, held an opening speech, the children did a Lucia Parade and the participants had cookies and the traditional Christmas drink, gløgg.
Furthermore, handcrafted Christmas decorations were sold with the profit from the sales going to Children of the Forest, an organization helping stateless children from Sangkhlaburi living on the Thai side of the Thai-Myanmar border.

Inspirational and rewarding week for our delegation of creatives visiting from Denmark!🇩🇰💡🎉🌟🇹🇭
“This has been an absolute dream scenario,” said Philippe Guéniau, co-owner and creative director of the Danish homewares and accessories company Rice, after participating in a business match making session with representatives from the creative industry in Thailand. Wednesday’s match making was one out of numerous activities, company visits and presentations that the Danish Lifestyle & Design Cluster took part of last week with the Danish Embassy as facilitator.
Thursday was all about experiencing the Nordic brands in Thailand. The day started with a visit to the House of Fritz Hansen, a showroom of the Danish luxury furniture brand in a Thai heritage environment, that was followed by a visit to Norse Republic/Hay and Kvik Kitchen. The many insightful meetings were followed by a discussion with the Thai distributor of Pandora and Marimekko products. Dinner was served in the company of the Danish-Thai Chamber of Commerce who also arranged another special match making session with Thai companies for the evening. The educational and eventful week ended with a visit to the Faculty of Decorative Arts at the Silpakorn University and a presentation at Bangkok Fashion & Arts School.
The Danish Lifestyle & Design Cluster explores the Thai market and all its great potentials! ️🇩🇰🌟🎉💡🇹🇭
Thailand has a lot to offer Danes in the creative businesses with its increasing focus on craftsmanship, innovation, technology and creativity. Therefore, creative executives and professors from the Danish Lifestyle & Design Cluster are visiting Thailand for a study and business matching trip this week arranged by the Danish Embassy.
Since Monday, the members of the Cluster have witnessed presentations from some of the leading Danish companies in Thailand such as ECCO, Jacob Jensen Design and B&O, visited large-scale production facilities such as Pandora and Royal Copenhagen, and met many possible future business partners at a match making session.
Thailand has always been a centre for the creative industries, and Thai people are known for their aesthetic sense and creative minds. Danish design is globally known for its quality and sustainability, and the annual export turnover from the creative businesses in Denmark is now more than 450 billion baht. Learning how to combine our countries’ skill-sets is therefore the essence of this valuable study trip and a great foundation for future cooperation within the creative industries.

The Thai-Danish Dairy Farm sets the frame for Muak Lek Half Marathon 2018 ️🇹🇭️🏃♀️🏃♂️🇩🇰️
As we know, marathons are built on legends. Here is an authentic and truly amazing one.
The Danish agronomist Mr. Gunnar Søndergaard, who was the founding father of the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm, led the work behind Thailand’s first-ever commercial milk production as well as an agricultural school in the Muak Lek district, 150 km north of Bangkok 🥛🐄
On 16th January 1962, the farm was inaugurated by the Majesties the late King Frederik IX of Denmark and King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. This was also the official beginning of the Danish development assistance between Thailand and Denmark funded by DANIDA.
On 24 – 25 November 2018, the local business community and the Dairy Farm is co-organising the “Muak Lek International Half Marathon Challenge 2018” (มวกเหล็กมาราธอน Muaklek Marathon) . At yesterday’s press conference on the marathon, Mr. Anders L. Graugaard, Deputy Head of Mission, gave a keynote speech on the history of the Thai-Danish Dairy Farm, the relations between the two Kingdoms and a recommendation to run.
The Dairy Farm is one of many examples of amazing efforts made by our countrymen in the past. This year, we celebrate the 160 years of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Denmark, however, our friendship goes back four centuries to 1621.
