🇨🇭 Embassy was honored to join UN Human Rights - Asia and European Union in Thailand and many partners working on the front line to defend human rights in celebrating the International Human Rights Day.

Many thanks for the presentations of images which highlight the challenges we have witnessed this year and how it has led to infringement of rights and liberties of people from different walks of life.

As we continue to face social and economic impact caused by the pandemic, it is more important than ever to ensure that everyone's rights are protected and no one is left behind!

Do you know who received the 1st Nobel Peace Prize in 1901?
The first laureate was the 🇨🇭️ Henry Dunant, founder of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC). He was honoured for his humanitarian work with the victims of war.
Altogether, 19 Nobel Peace Prizes have been awarded to individuals and institutions based in International Geneva.

The 5th December also marks the birthday of H.M. the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej and the day the Thai people pay respect to their fathers. The Embassy of Switzerland also warmly remembers the late King‘s contributions to the deep and longstanding relations that Thailand and Switzerland have shared and fostered over the years.

The Swiss Ambassador to Thailand attends a Child Protection Policy workshop run by ChildSafe Thailand alongside local schools.
This workshop was held at Watthapra School under the Bangkok Municipal Authority at Bangkokyai District. The Ambassador expressed her enthusiasm and ongoing appreciation for this very exciting and important #childprotection project, which is supported through the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangkok

UN Convention on Women’s rights: Switzerland on course, but challenges remain

🔶 In its 6th report on the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), 🇨🇭 gives a positive account of the progress being made. The country is drawing up its 1st national equality strategy and several changes have been made to the law to improve equality.

However, the report also refers to continuing challenges, such as inequality in the workplace and violence against women. There are still more efforts to be done!

The CEDAW Convention is one of the core international agreements in the protection of human rights and the most important instrument in protecting women's rights. It has been ratified by 189 countries; 🇨🇭 joined the Convention in 1997. 🔶

🇨🇭 🧀 Am Wochenende fand der traditionelle Raclette-Abend der Swiss Society Bangkok wie jedes Jahr auf der Residenz der schweizerischen Botschafterin statt. Die Vorspeise bestand aus verschiedenen Aufschnitten aus der Schweiz. Das Raclette, extra importiert für diesen Abend, wurde vom Personal des Bangkok Air Catering Co.,Ltd professionell vom halbrunden Laib abgestrichen. Begleitet von lüpfiger Volksmusik und inmitten der entsprechenden Fahnen- & Lampiondekoration haben die Gäste das gesellige Beisammensein mit einer heimatlichen Note geniessen können. 🇨🇭

Great to see cooperation between 🇨🇭️ and 🇹🇭 on the fields of technology and know-how transfer!

The 🇨🇭️ company Sylvac has been collaborating with the Department of Skills Development Department, Ministry of Labor on vocation training. Swiss Ambassador Helene Budliger Artieda had the honour to participate in the ceremony event “Quality Control applied to Automation Showcase” at MARA (Manufacturing Automation and Robotic Academy) in Chonburi, a new government training institute under the 🇹🇭 Ministry of Labor.

On that occasion, Ambassador Budliger Artieda met with the Deputy Minister of Labor and the Deputy Governor of Chonburi Province, as well as with other representatives of the public and private sectors. We look forward to pursuing this cooperation!

🎵 This week’s Pre-Christmas concert at the Residence of the Ambassador was a beautiful mix of German Lieder bei Brahms, Tschech bible songs by Dvorak and finally Händel’s Messiah. 🇨🇭 mezzo soprano Hélène McClellan, together with Khun Jamorn Supapol at the piano and Khun Miti Wisuthumporn, viola, gave a moving performance which kept their public spellbound. 🎵

We are excited to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Geneva Centre for Security Policy and to have hosted the first Global Alumni Networking Night (GANN) in 🇹🇭. It was great to connect with the #GCSPAlumni community & UNODC - United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime to discuss about collaboration in the fields of international peace & security.

In this particular year, the #GCSPGANN highlights the unique contribution of 🇨🇭️ in the training of decision-makers at the GCSP. Together with many other Swiss representations around the globe, the Embassy in 🇹🇭 is delighted to have contributed to the GANN with a physical networking event at the Swiss Residence in Bangkok.

UN Women Asia and the Pacific

Marking #16Days of Activism in #Thailand and Asia and the Pacific, Thammasat University, Thailand’s best known state-run university has “oranged” its main auditorium, Kittiyakarn Hall to support International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women and given its official pledge to support UN Women and #GenerationEquality.

Thammasat University will co-host a Safe and Fair event – Spotlight on Generation Equality Public Forum on the 25th of November. https://bit.ly/3lX7Rgt

Safe and Fair is part of the EU-UN Spotlight Initiative to end violence against women and girls.
