As the rainy season has officially arrived for Thailand - We want to say Goodbye to the Hot season with another Boon Bang Fai Festival from Chandler Smith and Michael Marano, TESS Group 129 -
"Over the past weekend, the community that I work in, Phu Toei, held its annual “Bang Fai” rocket festival (งานบุญบั้งไฟ). The festival is a two-day event that brings different communities and cultures from around eastern Thailand together to launch handmade rockets into the sky in hopes of a substantial forthcoming rainy season. The community leader asked fellow PCV, Michael Marano, and me to dress as buffalo herders and partake in our village’s portion of the parade. People from around the region watched, smiled, and laughed as we paraded through town shouting commands at our buffalo replica. As a third year PCV at a new site, being asked to join the rest of the community in this famed event was an unforgettable privilege. I’m thankful to the community for including me in this local tradition."
