Officers of Medium Security Custodial Centre Nasarawa, Paid Courtesy Visit to the Office of Nasarawa Local Government Chairman

Today, 27 February 2025, Officer-in-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre Nasarawa, CSC Bulus S Samaila and his team, paid a courtesy visit to the office of Nasarawa Local Government Council chairman, Hon Mohammed Hassan Ahmed.

CSC Bulus thanked the Honourable Chairman for granting him the audience, even as he took over the affairs of the Centre on 18 December 2024 – the chairman honoured the invitation first-hand.

"Thank you, Chairman, for this single honour and we are grateful for the kind gesture."

Mr Bulus briefed The Executive Chairman on the number of the inmates in the centre. "There are 106 inmates in our custody and about forty-fifty percent of them are indigenes of Nasarawa Local Government. Therefore, Mr Chairman, there are a lot of things to be done to curtail these social vices."

He further expressed concerns about the issues of a dilapidated kitchen, a vehicle breakdown, and inadequate feeding of inmates. "Mr Chairman, I want to assure you that the kitchen in the centre is not in order, and soon it will be raining. And the vehicle – for conveying inmates to courts and attending meetings – has broken down for a long time now. Also, the provisions/amount made for every inmate is ₦1050, which is not enough, considering the current economy and the age bracket of the inmates, which is between 18-25, meaning they can consume more than that amount every day."

He concluded by saying, "Most of these are the responsibilities of the Federal Government, but there are many big Medium Centres that the Federal Government pays more attention to, because of the larger number of inmates there. Therefore, we are soliciting the assistance of the Local Government to cover some lapses."

The chairman expressed satisfaction with the visit and gave assurance of paying a courtesy visit to the Medium Security Custodial Centre.

"I am glad that you are visiting the office of the Executive Chairman. We will pay you a courtesy visit soon. We will do everything we could to contact the appropriate quotas in order to see things have changed for good in the Centre. As for the Ramadan package, we are working towards that, and you will hear a good outcome from us soon."

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Office of the Chairman, Nasarawa Local Government, wishes to address the misinformation circulating about the fire service van. Contrary to claims that the van often runs out of fuel during emergencies, we categorically state that the chairman has ensured the van is always fueled and ready for deployment.

Recently, the fire service personnel reported a leakage in the water tank, which hindered its ability to store adequate water for emergency responses. The Executive Chairman promptly ordered the repair and welding of the water tank to prevent such incidents in the future.

We urge those spreading false information to desist from doing so and instead, make inquiries to verify the facts before disseminating them to the public. The Honourable Chairman prioritises the welfare and safety of the people of Nasarawa Local Government.

This clarification comes after the Chairman's representative visit to sympathise with the victims of the recent fire outbreak. We reiterate our commitment to providing effective emergency services and ensuring the well-being of our citizens.
