It has been a few weeks since I last gave a proper update, so there is quite a bit to catch up on.
First and most importantly: Ashley is well, body, mind, and spirit🙏
On 30 July, the women’s section of the prison closed for visits after a COVID case was detected. Visits only resumed again on the 14th. Thankfully, Ashley was separated from those who were ill and, by the grace of God, remained healthy throughout. We are very grateful for His protection over her.

🌇 THE MOVE TO BANGKOK
The prison has now submitted the documents for Ashley’s transfer to Bangkok.
❓WHY is Ashley being transfered?
Since it is the bigger prison, stuff gets done quicker. She can apply for parole from here with staff that understand the procedure.
This prison staff told her that they are getting fed-up with us asking so many questions and they don’t know the answers nor how to handle foreigners - remember she’s the 1st ever western foreigner in this prison…
People here are not like us, they won’t find out or admit if they don’t know. They don’t put effort in finding stuff out if the job is not theirs…
She “needed” to be at this prison until now…😊
We will not be given an exact transfer date. One of the officers has told Ashley that she should hopefully receive about a week’s warning that the transfer is approaching, although she will still not know the actual day.
So, realistically, I may arrive for a Wednesday or Friday visit one day in the coming weeks, only to be told, “Sorry, Ashley has been transferred to Bangkok.”
And that may simply be how I find out!
Because she cannot take everything with her, I will collect some of her books during my visit this Friday. The remaining books will be donated to the prison. She also cannot take her diaries with her.
Over the past few weeks, Ashley has been sending me some of her old journal entries through her letters. I will admit that I do not always read all of them. Some of those entries, particularly from the early days, are incredibly difficult and heart-wrenching for me to read.
I choose instead to keep my eyes on today.
We have come this far.
Praise God. 🙌

📅 DATES WE WILL NOT EASILY FORGET
August 8th marked 5 years and 10 months since Ashley has been in prison.
August 18th marked five years since Ashley received what was effectively a life sentence — 100 years in a Thai prison.
August 17th marks four years since 2nd court, when that sentence was reduced to 33 years and 4 months.
These are dates that will probably always remain with us.
But when I look back, I don’t only see the pain anymore. I also see how incredibly far God has brought us.
How He has sanctified us and how we have both grown spiritually.
How He has been using us, and still is using us for His glory🙌

🏠 MY MOVE TO BANGKOK
In the meantime, I have managed to find a small condo in Bangkok, and I will start moving my things over during the coming weekend.
The difficult part is that I don’t know when Ashley will actually be transferred. So for now, I am simply trying to get the timing right — moving the few belongings I have to Bangkok so that when the day finally comes, I can simply pick myself up and go.
Thankfully, my current landlady has been incredibly kind. If she has not found new tenants from Sept 1st, I should still be able to rent my current place on a weekly basis.
Another blessing🙏

🌏 AN UNEXPECTED WEEK IN VIETNAM
This month was also the time for me to leave Thailand again, and with only around six months validity remaining on my passport, I wanted to use it internationally one last time before replacing it.
Then God provided in the most unexpected way.
One of my new South African friends whom I met here in Thailand invited me to join her for a week in Vietnam — with all my expenses covered.
What an incredible blessing! 🇻🇳❤️
I am deeply grateful for her generosity and for the opportunity to get away for a few days, see another beautiful part of the world and simply enjoy the journey.
May God bless her abundantly for blessing me.

🌻 GOD’S PROVISION — RIGHT ON TIME
This month I also received another extraordinary blessing, arriving at exactly the right time.
It means I am able to cover the deposit and initial rent for my new place in Bangkok, where living costs are naturally a little higher. It will also help me cover some dental treatment that I have needed for a while. One canine broke about three months ago and still needs the final stage of treatment, as well as some other work.
To the person who made this possible: thank you. God bless you. You know who you are, and I am deeply grateful. ❤️
And then, to every single person who continues to support us through the BackaBuddy campaign, Ashley’s Fight for Freedom — THANK YOU.
This month those contributions covered approximately 80% of Ashley’s expenses.
Please know that we never take your support for granted.
Prayers, words of encouragement, financial blessings.
It would have been so much harder without you.

🙌 AND ONE MORE PRAISE REPORT…
During March I twisted my hand while running with my suitcase to catch my flight and so the pain never ceased near my wrist on the top of my hand… I then also developed severe pain along the side of my hand, about 3 weeks ago. It became so painful that I could hardly move my hand without experiencing sharp pain, and I was preparing myself to return to the physio. (I had to get 5 session a few months ago due to a nerve problem where two fingers turned numb etc…)
A friend prayed for my hand on the Thursday.
By the Friday night, the excruciating pain was gone and still is! Hallelujah!
Thank You Jesus! 🙌

Through prison walls, court dates, uncertainty, moving cities, unexpected expenses, health concerns and all the unknowns that still lie ahead, one thing remains unchanged:
God has been faithful at the end of each day.
Thank you to all of you for still walking this journey with Ashley and me after all these years.
All glory belongs to God alone. 🙌❤️
Love,
Lynn & Ash🌻
