Under the TCRTP II, a Category 5 fire truck is being provided for Lupepau'u Airport to strengthen aircraft rescue and fire-fighting capability.
Two officers from Tonga Airports Ltd (TAL) recently travelled to witness the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) of the Volkan Lion 4x4 in Auckland, New Zealand, supplied by Aviation Fire Services Ltd. The appliance has successfully met all compliance requirements and is scheduled to be shipped to Tonga in mid-February 2026.
Operational and maintenance training will be delivered by Aviation Fire Services Ltd for Tonga Airports Ltd officers in March 2026 at Fua'amotu Airport.
With a value of over USD 1.3 million, this new fire truck represents a major investment in safety and resilience, significantly enhancing emergency response capability at Lupepau‘u Airport and supporting safer air travel for the people of Vava‘u.
