HRH Crown Prince Tupouto’a ‘Ulukalala, Minister for His Majesty’s Diplomatic Services, led Tonga’s delegation to the 2026 Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting in Suva, Fiji. Tonga actively contributed to advancing a more united Blue Pacific through practical and sovereignty-respecting cooperation on key regional priorities.

The Forum Foreign Ministers Meeting is currently underway at the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF) Secretariat in Suva, Fiji.

The meeting is chaired by Hon. Rick Houenipwela, Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Solomon Islands.

Thursday 06 August 2026 - Mr. Curtis Leonard Tu‘ihalangingie has presented his Letters of Credence to Her Excellency the Honourable Ms. Sam Mostyn AC, Governor‑General of the Commonwealth of Australia, at Government House, thereby officially commencing his tenure as High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to the Commonwealth of Australia.

The Tonga High Commission also holds concurrent accreditation to the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam, the Republic of Indonesia, the Kingdom of Malaysia, the Republic of the Philippines, the Republic of Singapore, and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Mr. Tu‘ihalangingie has served at the Tonga High Commission in Canberra for seven years, holding successive appointments as Second Secretary, First Secretary, and Acting High Commissioner. Prior to his posting in Canberra, he held appointments within the Government of Tonga, including at the Royal Palace and His Majesty’s Diplomatic Services.

His Excellency holds a Bachelor of Law with a major in Diplomacy and a Master of Law in International Relations from Peking University, People’s Republic of China.

This occasion presents an important opportunity to cultivate and deepen the long‑standing relations between the Government of the Kingdom of Tonga and the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, particularly through the newly established Kaume‘a Ofi Initiative.

His Excellency will assume this new posting, joined by Ms. Grace Faitumalo Motu‘apuaka, appointed as First Secretary and Deputy Head of Mission, together with Mr. Tasimani Duifken Telefoni, as Second Secretary.

Tonga has acceded to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), and become the 179th State to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT). ✍🏽

These important commitments ✊🏽 reflect Tonga's continued leadership in promoting a safer, more peaceful, and nuclear-weapon-free world 🌏 for present and future generations 🙌🏽.
