The discussion between Bager Akbay & Emine Öztaner (Ibn Haldun University), organized by Elena Astafieva (IFEA) on June 19, 2026 during the French-Turkish AI Days at Galatasaray University, gave rise to a hypothesis that reaches beyond AI and artistic practice.
The Post-AI Artist is not simply an artist who uses AI; they inaugurate a new condition of creation.

With projects like Deniz Yılmaz, Bager Akbay's robot-poet, authorship ceases to be the sole preserve of the artist. Agency is redistributed across humans, datasets, algorithms, computational models, and technical apparatuses. The author does not disappear; rather, authorship becomes relational, distributed, and conceptually constructed.

The Post-AI Artist is not just a figure of posthumanism but one of its producers. Posthumanism ceases to be only a philosophical framework: it becomes an operative mode of artistic practice. Art no longer represents posthumanism, it actively produces its conditions of existence.

From this practice emerges the “post-post-space”; a new ontological regime in which data, computation, fiction, and conceptual presence continuously generate one another. The artwork no longer occupies a space; it produces the conditions of its own emergence.

This proposition opens a further question regarding “trans-posthumanism”. If posthumanism decentralizes the human subject, trans-posthumanism may designate a different “threshold”: when creative agency is no longer organized around the human as its primary source of legitimacy. The issue is no more the enhancement of human capacities, but the transformation of agency itself towards hybrid systems capable of generating identities, spaces, and creative regimes whose legitimacy depends not exclusively on the human.

The Post-AI Artist is not just the first producer of posthumanism. They may also become the first operator of trans-posthumanism, inaugurating a creative regime in which the human is no longer the absolute benchmark of production.

𝐑𝐞𝐝𝐞𝐟𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐓𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐰'𝐬 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬

On May 21–22, the international colloquium "Nature and Territory," hosted by Galatasaray University, gathered researchers to confront a critical question: how do we define our living spaces?

Born from the synergy between Galatasaray University, IFEA, and the EURETES program (École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS) / CETOBaC), this event moved beyond static definitions. We approached "𝗡𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲" 𝗮𝗻𝗱 "𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆" 𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝘀, constantly negotiated through power relations and specific knowledge regimes.

With Türkiye preparing to host , our discussions gained immediate relevance.

As Ms. Nadia Fanton, Consul General of France in Istanbul (Consulat général de France à Istanbul - Fransa Istanbul Başkonsolosluğu), noted in her closing remarks, this colloquium succeeded in 𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 "𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻". Between the halls of Galatasaray University and the IFEA, we reached a consensus: "𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝘀, 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗹𝗹, 𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗺𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗿𝘆". To study it is 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲, 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻.

𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗼𝗿 was the pivot of these two days. The 𝗚𝗜𝗦 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗽, led by 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗻 𝗚𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻, transitioned the debate from the theoretical to the empirical. By utilizing QGIS for spatial data visualization, participants engaged with the technical tools necessary to map these complex nature-territory relations.

This path was carved by the organizing committee - 𝗔𝘆ç𝗮𝗻𝘂𝗿 𝗧𝗼𝗽, 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗿𝘇𝘆𝗯𝗼𝘄𝘀𝗸𝗶, 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝗶𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗲𝘃 𝗗𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗮ç, and 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗮 𝗔𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗳𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮.

We trust that the frameworks established here will continue to inform the scientific debates accompanying the upcoming .

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐎𝐭𝐭𝐨𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐞𝐬

On April 16 and 17, 2026, the conference organized by the 𝐎𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐥 in cooperation with 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐮𝐭 𝐅𝐫𝐚𝐧ç𝐚𝐢𝐬 𝐝’𝐄𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐬, and supported by the 𝐆𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐢𝐧 𝐈𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐛𝐮𝐥 and 𝐂𝐍𝐑𝐒 (Paris), brought together historians, literary scholars, and musicologists from Türkiye, France, Germany, and Austria.

The aim was to explore the fundamental 𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗮-𝗱𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀: How do large datasets shape the Ottoman studies? Where does “radical empiricism” set new agendas, and where is conceptual, hermeneutic reflection still essential?

The varied contributions, ranging from 𝗡𝗟𝗣-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝘆𝘀𝗲𝘀 to the application of 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗾𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗼𝗱𝘀, highlighted how large datasets are transforming 𝗢𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘀.

The event also prompted critical reflections on essential questions:
How can we adapt digital tools designed in the West to the specificities of non-Western cultures?

How can we effectively harness Big Data at a macro-level without losing sight of the essential meso- and micro-historical contexts?
And, crucially, how can we prevent the creation of a “digital history” that escapes peer verification, especially when access to original documents is restricted?

Beyond these methodological and technical interrogations, this conference marks a significant step forward for the field. By demonstrating that a 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 remains the historian’s most vital tool even in the age of algorithms, the event solidified a network of professional trust, fostering 𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 and laying the groundwork for emerging joint projects.

L'institut français d'études anatoliennes - Georges Dumézil (UAR 3131 – CNRS-MAE) offre tous les ans des bourses à des jeunes chercheurs (masterants, doctorants, post-doctorants) français ou étrangers inscrits dans un établissement français. Les candidatures de personnes non financées seront privilégiées. Cette bourse est également ouverte aux étudiants inscrits dans les universités turques hors du département d'Istanbul.
