Investing in people is investing in the future of Trinidad and Tobago.

This morning, the Minister of Defence The Honourable Wayne Sturge was honoured to address trainees and industry professionals at MIC-IT's inaugural Inside the Industry – Hospitality Edition initiative along with Renee-Enriquez Rodriguez, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors, under the theme "TRAINING FOR INDUSTRY".

Programmes like these play a critical role in bridging the gap between education and employment by connecting young people with real-world experience, mentorship, and career opportunities.

To every trainee in attendance: remain focused, stay disciplined, and never stop learning. Success is built one opportunity, one lesson, and one decision at a time.

The Ministry commends MIC-IT for its continued commitment to workforce development and youth empowerment as we work together to build a skilled, resilient, and globally competitive workforce.

Today, the Ministry of Defence was pleased to participate in the opening of the Fi****ms Training Workshop, hosted by CARICOM IMPACS in partnership with the United States Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL).

Delivering remarks on behalf of the Ministry, Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge emphasized the critical importance of this initiative, which brings together regional and international stakeholders to strengthen our collective response to:
🚫 Illicit fi****ms trafficking
🛑 Transnational organized crime
🚨 Emerging security threats

The fight against illegal fi****ms requires more than just enforcement—it demands intelligence, deep cooperation, innovation, and unwavering partnerships. Through continuous collaboration and capacity building, the Ministry remains dedicated to reinforcing the security architecture of Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean region.

We commend CARICOM IMPACS and all participating agencies for their dedication to advancing regional security and building safer, more resilient communities for our citizens.

Elements of history, culture, and unity came alive this morning as the Ministry of Defence hosted its annual Indian Arrival Day Celebration!

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Honourable Wayne Sturge, Minister of Defence and Minister in the Ministry of Homeland Security, and Permanent Secretary (Ag.) Mr. Narine Charran for their inspiring remarks at our first Indian Arrival Day celebration at the Ministry of Defence.

We also warmly thank our distinguished guests from the Mahatma Gandhi Institute for Cultural Co-operation (MGICC): Second Secretary Mr. Amit Prakash Thakur, for his enlightening feature presentation, and Ms. Deepa Bhat, who captivated us with a breath taking Bharatanatyam dance performance.

As we commemorate the 181st anniversary of the arrival of the Fatel Razack, we celebrate the resilience, endurance, and rich legacy that continues to shape our twin-island nation.

From the management and staff at the Ministry of Defence, we wish everyone a safe, peaceful, and happy Indian Arrival Day! ✨
