Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation (MRCRC) The Mayaro/Rio Claro region is the most south easterly municipality in Trinidad & Tobago.

The region possesses an abundance of beach front and the largest reservoir of natural gas and crude oil along its eastern coast. Employment opportunities vary from oil and gas ,agriculture, fishing and logging to a variety of small business institutions. The Corporation’s area of responsibility spans eight hundred and fifty three square kilometers i.e. 853 km2 and comprises thirty nine (39) disc

rete communities. It is the second largest landmass of any Regional Corporation in Trinidad. The Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation is committed to providing quality services and resources to the environs of its regions. The Corporation is governed by the Municipal Corporation’s Act No. 21 of 1990 and is one of fourteen such bodies under the Ministry of Local Government.

⚠️ PUBLIC NOTICE: ROAD CLOSURE

The Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation advises that Moonan Trace, off the Naparima–Mayaro Road, Union Village, is closed to all vehicular traffic until further notice due to the unsafe condition of a dilapidated bridge.

Please note that there is currently no alternative access route available. Residents and members of the public are strongly advised not to attempt to cross or access the affected area.

The Corporation apologises for the inconvenience caused and thanks the public for its patience, cooperation and understanding.

📢 NOW HIRING: ENVIRONMENTAL EVALUATORS

The Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation is inviting suitably qualified citizens of Trinidad who sign the Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation employment register to apply for temporary positions as Environmental Evaluators for August and September 2026.

Interested persons must visit the Labour Department, Transport Compound, De Verteuil Street, Rio Claro, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., with a valid government-issued photo identification. Applicants must also provide their address, contact information and NIS number.

📚 Strengthening Professionalism Through Protocol

On Monday, July 27, 2026, the Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation hosted a Professional Protocol Workshop at the bpTT Mayaro Resource Centre.

The interactive session brought together Members of Council, Heads of Departments, senior officers and administrative personnel to strengthen their understanding of professional protocol, workplace etiquette and official procedures within the Public Service and Local Government environment.

Participants engaged in presentations, discussions and practical exercises covering professional conduct, forms of address, official introductions, order of precedence, seating arrangements, courtesy calls, invitations, RSVP procedures, national symbols, flag protocol and the planning of official events.

Special thanks are extended to Councillor David Law and Councillor Renelle Achong for leading the session and sharing their knowledge and guidance with participants.

The Corporation also extends sincere appreciation to bpTT for facilitating the use of the Mayaro Resource Centre and supporting this important capacity-building initiative.

Through continued training and development, the Corporation remains committed to promoting professionalism, service excellence and effective representation in all official engagements.

During the 37th Statutory Meeting of the Mayaro-Rio Claro Regional Corporation, held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, Chairman Alderman Raymond Cozier and Members of Council proudly presented awards to three outstanding members of the public in recognition of their achievements and contributions.

📚 Mr. Alique Hagley was celebrated for his commitment to academic excellence, personal growth and perseverance. His passion for learning, discipline, resilience and dedication both in the classroom and on the football field distinguish him as an inspiring young individual and future leader.

🎶 Ms. Kerice Pascall was honoured for her outstanding contribution to the preservation and promotion of Trinidad and Tobago’s calypso tradition. Her accomplishments include being a three-time Rio Claro Calypso Monarch, Sangre Grande Calypso Monarch and advancing to the 2026 National Calypso Monarch Finals.

👑 Ms. Roxanne Omalo, a proud daughter of Begorat Trace, St. Ann’s Village, Mayaro, was recognised for her extraordinary contribution to Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural heritage. As a five-time National Carnival Queen, cultural ambassador, entrepreneur and youth development advocate, she continues to bring honour to Mayaro and inspire others to embrace their culture with pride.

🌙 Celebrating Eid Through Faith, Reflection and Unity 🤝

The Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation recently hosted a special programme in celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, bringing together Members of Council and staff to reflect on the significance of these sacred Islamic observances.

Although both occasions were celebrated earlier this year, the Corporation remains committed to recognising and celebrating their importance while embracing the rich religious and cultural diversity that strengthens our organisation.

The Corporation extends sincere appreciation to Mr. Outam Ramnarine, who served as Master of Ceremonies, ensuring the seamless coordination of the programme.

We also express our heartfelt gratitude to Chairman Raymond Cozier for his welcoming remarks and to Councillor Hazarie Ramdeen for delivering the feature address, highlighting the importance of unity, respect, and cultural appreciation within our workplace and community.

Special thanks are extended to Imam Khaleel Chadee for leading the opening prayer, delivering the inspiring recitation from the Holy Qur'an, and offering the closing dua. We also thank Mr. Jamayat Hosein for his uplifting musical renditions, and Mr. Rajiv Sooknanan for delivering an insightful presentation on the history and significance of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, providing attendees with a deeper appreciation of these important Islamic observances.

👮📚 Building Safer Communities Through Education 💙

On Friday, July 17, 2026, the Mayaro/Rio Claro Municipal Police conducted a Community Engagement Initiative at the Rio Claro Public Library, providing young participants with an engaging and educational experience focused on cyberbullying awareness and online safety.

The initiative was spearheaded and supervised by the Ag. Assistant Superintendent of Police, First Division Officer-in-Charge, Mayaro/Rio Claro Municipal Police, and coordinated by the Station Duty Officer (Community Engagement), with the support of officers attached to the Mayaro/Rio Claro Municipal Police Station.

Through interactive storytelling, group discussions, safe and unsafe situation games, word searches, and arts and crafts activities, children learned valuable lessons about preventing cyberbullying, treating others with kindness and respect, and seeking help from trusted adults when faced with challenges online.

The programme concluded with the presentation of Certificates of Participation and tokens of appreciation to each child in recognition of their enthusiastic involvement.

The Mayaro/Rio Claro Regional Corporation commends the Municipal Police for their continued commitment to community engagement and youth development, helping to create safer, more informed, and more resilient communities. 💙🤝

♻️ Bulk Waste Collection Exercise ♻️

The Mayaro Rio Claro Regional Corporation will conduct a Bulk Waste Collection Exercise from Wednesday 15th to Monday 20th July 2026 across Biche/Plum Mitan, Rio Claro/Poole and Mayaro.

Residents are encouraged to properly separate collectable items and avoid placing hazardous materials, construction debris, tyres, batteries, broken glass or dead animals for collection.
