This office has been advocating for the cleanup of this location for several months, while also calling for a long-term solution to address the issue. Unfortunately, despite our continued efforts, a permanent resolution has yet to be achieved.

Due to the unavailability of the necessary equipment from the Corporation, we were required to seek assistance from other agencies. On a couple of occasions, we were fortunate to receive support from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government Disaster Management Unit.

We wish to express our sincere appreciation to Ali’s Hardware & Metal Fabricators Ltd. for demonstrating commendable corporate social responsibility by providing assistance with this initiative. Without their support, the cleanup work undertaken today would not have been possible.

We are grateful for their partnership and commitment to supporting the community.

It has been my honour and privilege to host this Back-to-School Drive annually, with the simple goal of helping to ease the burden on families and ensuring that our children can begin the new school year with dignity, confidence and the basic supplies they need. Over the years, I have continued this initiative often with little or no assistance, because I firmly believe that serving our community is not only about words, but about being present and doing what we can to make a difference in the lives of the people we represent.

To those few persons who, over the years, have given whatever little support they could, I remain truly thankful. No contribution has ever been too small, and every small gift has helped us to reach another child or family. Your willingness to assist, even when you may not have had much to give, has meant a great deal to me and has encouraged me to continue this initiative year after year. I sincerely appreciate your support and look forward to continuing to serve the people of Marabella East in whatever way I can.

There are a few of matters before the attention of this office that I would like to briefly address:
1. The clearing and cleaning of the two main recreational grounds in the District: In a media release via this said page, this was addressed comprehensively and noted the challenges facing this particular issue. A new challenge would have arisen with the Union Park East Recreation Ground and this is being addressed directly by the Corporation.
2. The cleaning and clearing of drains - prior to April 2026, these were addressed by a casual team assigned to the Councillor's office. 4-7 workers was assigned and would see to this on rotated schedule or as a complaint was received. This arrangement was withdrawn by the Corporation. A NPUPS team was assigned to the area but their purview is broad and would not as easily and readily be able address drainage matters as responsively as before.
The Drainage Division (South) is trying to address some of the larger watercourses and my office has sought assistance from that end, but we were advised that those other drains are not their purview and are to be addressed by the Corporation.
3. Repeated garbage build up on 2nd Street: This area has become a nuisance. Reports were made to the Corporation since November 2025. The Corporation has not been able to facilitate owing to equipment disrepair. To mitigate, assistance was sought from the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government. We were able to get assistance from the Disaster Management Unit as part of its Flood Mitigation Programme. NOTE WELL: FLOOD MITIGATION. On more than one occasion, that equipment facilitated cleaning the area in question - to prevent that garbage from getting into the already challenged drainage systems. And on each occasion, I would have implored residents to have care for the community that we are ALL a part of. Assistance has once again been sought through the Ministry again and we hope for a positive response. Simultaneously, we are exploring other avenues to have this addressed
4. Issues with residential garbage collection on 6th Street: We have been advised by ECD of the Corporation, that on scheduled pick ups, they were faced with challenges of threats from some persons in the area and as a matter of precaution, ceased operations. We are further advised, that measures are being implemented to facilitate regular pick ups but the safety of Corporation staff remains paramount
