Our work at the Division of Environment, Climate Resilience and Energy extends beyond the office.

The Department of Natural Resources and Forestry continues to facilitate educational tours and field visits across the Main Ridge Forest Reserve and other sites under the Division’s responsibility, giving students, community groups and visitors the opportunity to experience Tobago’s natural environment firsthand.

These engagements play an important role in raising awareness of our forests, biodiversity and the importance of protecting our natural resources, while ensuring every visit is informative, safe and enjoyable.

The Tobago Heritage Festival 2026 is in full swing!

Secretary of the Division of Environment, Climate Resilience and Energy, Assembly Member Darren Henry, joined patrons on Saturday for one of the festival’s signature events, the highly anticipated Moriah Ole Time Wedding. Secretary Henry participated in the traditional bridal procession from the church to the reception venue, celebrating Tobago’s rich cultural heritage alongside the community.

The Tobago Heritage Festival continues with activities across the island until Emancipation Day on August 1st. Join in the celebration of our history, traditions and culture.

Barry Lovelace, Director of Marine Resources in the Division of Environment, Climate Resilience and Energy, provided an update on consultations with Buccoo Reef operators and the ongoing efforts to strengthen the management of Tobago's marine parks.

The interview explored the importance of balancing environmental conservation with the livelihoods of those who depend on the reef, while outlining plans to protect Buccoo Reef for future generations.

Mr. Lovelace also discussed collaborative approaches to sustainable marine resource management and the future of one of Tobago's most treasured natural assets.

Young bright minds from Pentecostal Light and Life Foundation High School recently had the opportunity to present their research and innovative solutions to environmental challenges directly to Secretary of the Division of Environment, Climate Resilience and Energy, Assembly Member Darren Henry.

The Form One Geography students explored issues such as coral reef destruction, plastic pollution, deforestation, improper waste management and water pollution, while proposing practical recommendations to help build a cleaner, greener and more climate-resilient Tobago.

The interactive session encouraged critical thinking and demonstrated that age is no barrier to making a positive environmental impact. The future of environmental stewardship is certainly in capable hands!
