The 2025 Sea-Turtle Nesting Season in Trinidad and Tobago begins on March 1st and runs until August 31st. The main nesting beaches—Fishing Pond, Matura, and Grande Rivière—are Prohibited Areas, and entry for turtle viewing requires a permit, available from February 28, 2025, at designated Forestry Division and District Revenue offices.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries (MALF) urges the public to protect sea turtles by:
Avoiding sitting on turtles to prevent fatal injuries.
Keeping beaches clean to prevent entanglement in debris.
Avoiding bright lights that disorient hatchlings.
Respecting nesting sites by not driving, biking, digging, or removing sand.
Reporting harm to turtles, eggs, or hatchlings to the Forestry Division, EMA, or TTPS.
Let’s work together to ensure a safe nesting season for these endangered species! 🐢
