Today’s Refresher Workshop on Trade Digitalisation and Cross-Border Paperless Trade 🇹🇻🌏

Today, the Department of Trade hosted a refresher workshop on Advancing Trade Digitalization in Tuvalu, focusing on UNCITRAL instruments, the proposed Tuvalu Electronic Transactions Bill 2026, and the Framework Agreement on Facilitation of Cross-Border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific (CPTA).

The workshop provided an important opportunity for government ministries and stakeholders to share updates, strengthen understanding of digital trade and electronic transactions, and discuss the preparation and review of Tuvalu’s CPTA Individual Action Plan.
🙏 The Department of Trade sincerely acknowledges and thanks UNESCAP and UNCITRAL for their continued partnership, technical support and co-funding towards this important workshop.

We also extend our special appreciation to Mr. Yann Duval, Chief of the Trade Policy and Facilitation Section, UNESCAP, for undertaking his official mission to Tuvalu on 12 August 2026 and for his valuable contribution to the workshop on trade facilitation.

Our sincere thanks also go to Dr. Alan Davidson, Chair of UNCITRAL Working Group IV (Electronic Commerce), for sharing his expertise and providing valuable insights on UNCITRAL’s e-commerce and trade digitalisation instruments, as well as the proposed Tuvalu Electronic Transactions Bill 2026.

As preparations for Sei Tuvalu 2026 continue, the Ministry of Transport, Energy, Communication and Innovation (MTECI) would like to extend its sincere gratitude to another key contributor to this year’s pageant—the Sei Tuvalu 2026 Committee. 🇹🇻✨

Today, the Department of Trade hosted a stakeholder workshop on Tuvalu’s potential accession to the Interim Economic Partnership Agreement (iEPA) with the European Union.

The workshop provided an important platform for government stakeholders to discuss the opportunities, obligations, and potential impacts of the agreement, while contributing to a broader understanding of what accession could mean for Tuvalu’s trade and economic development.

The Department of Trade sincerely thanks all participants for their active engagement and valuable contributions. We also extend our appreciation to Tracey Epps, Setaita Tupua, and the SPIRIT Project team for their continued support and partnership throughout this process.

As discussions on Tuvalu’s possible accession to the iEPA continue, the Department remains committed to consulting stakeholders and keeping the public informed of key developments and progress.

On 17 June 2026, the Department of Trade (DOT) conduct the Validation Consultation meeting of the Tuvalu’s Trade Policy Statement. This important meeting, held during the consultant’s second visit, 🤝 brought together relevant stakeholders (government department, private sector, NGOs) to review and validate the draft Tuvalu Trade policy framework.
We sincerely thank the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat (PIFs) for funding this project and extend our deep appreciation to our consultant 👩‍💼 Mrs. Tracey Epps for her work and guidance throughout the process.
This consultation marks a key step in ensuring Tuvalu’s trade policy reflects national priorities and supports our future development.
