Tuvalu is actively engaged in the PACER Plus Strategic Workshop 2026-2030 from the 20th - 24th April, 2026 at Apia, Samoa.

The delegation joined regional Contact Points and Component leads on Day 1 of the workshop to take stock of implementation progress and help shape the next five years of PACER Plus.

Highlights including:
✅ Reflecting on 5 years of implementation – DEC Work Programme 2021-2025 and Implementation Tracker
✅ Introduction to the draft PACER Plus Log frame 2026-2030
✅ Deep dives into key components:

1. Rules of Origin & Tariffs
2. Customs Procedures
3. SPS (Sanitary and Phytosanitary)
4. TBT (Technical Barriers to Trade)
5. Trade in Services & Movement of Natural Persons
6. Investment
7. Labour Mobility

Last week, the PACER Plus Implementation Unit (PPIU) team visited Tuvalu to engage in discussions on the PACER Plus 2026–2030 Development and Economic Cooperation (DEC) Work Programme.

The visit provided an opportunity for productive dialogue with key stakeholders on priorities and areas of support that will contribute to Tuvalu’s economic development. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation, identifying capacity-building needs, and exploring initiatives that can further enhance trade, economic resilience, and sustainable growth.

We appreciate the continued partnership and support from the PACER Plus Implementation Unit and look forward to working together in advancing the upcoming 2026–2030 DEC Work Programme for the benefit of Tuvalu.

Yesterday marked the final day of our Tuvalu Department of Trade Retreat. Over the past 2 days, we engaged in meaningful discussions and productive sessions focused on Mapping our Work Plan, as well as Setting Clear Goals and Expectations for the year ahead.

The retreat provided a valuable opportunity for reflection, collaboration, and alignment as a team. Through open dialog and shared ideas, we strengthened our commitment to improving our performance and delivering better outcomes for the communities and stakeholders we serve.

As we move forward, we do so with clearer direction, stronger teamwork, and renewed motivation to achieve our targets.

Together we move forward with purpose and confidence.

Today the Department of Trade recently held a retreat at the Fagaualafi Conference room (Sautalagaa Tautai). The Department of Trade recently held a productive virtual consultation with Kaupule Secretaries to discuss the Enhanced Integrated Framework (EIF) Phase III. The meeting was chaired by Assistant Secretary Mr. Falaoa Sione and attended by Mr. Papua Ulisese (Kaupule of Nui), Mrs. Sulivanu S. Afele (Kaupule of Nanumaga), Ms. Lea Falesese (Kaupule of Nukufetau), Mr. Malau Akelisi (Kaupule of Niutao), and Mr. Vaipuna E. Lopati (Kaupule of Nanumea) accompanied by few Kaupule members from each islands.

Ms. Toaiga Semisi, Director of Trade, highlighted that this consultation is part of the ongoing development of Tuvalu’s Country Programme Development Profile under EIF Phase III. She noted that the session provided a valuable opportunity for constructive dialogue and collaboration with Kaupule members. This process is a critical step toward identifying priority trade-related activities that align with national development priorities while meeting EIF criteria and requirements.

In conclusion, the virtual consultation was a positive and constructive platform for working closely with Kaupule members. It facilitated the identification of key issues and challenges, and the Department of Trade looks forward to continued collaboration with Kaupule representatives from all islands to ensure that EIF Phase III becomes a successful and impactful programme for Tuvalu.
