The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that i

nspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship. Since that time, more than 240,000 Americans of all ages have responded to Kennedy’s call to serve and have helped communities in 161 countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education to information technology and environmental preservation. Today's Peace Corps is more vital than ever, working in emerging and essential areas such as information technology and business development, and contributing to the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. Peace Corps Volunteers continue to support countless individuals who want to build a better life for themselves, their children, and their communities. General Information

THE COUNTDOWN TO TZ90 ✈️🇹🇿🕊️

We’re so excited to welcome the incoming cohort of Peace Corps Tanzania Trainees this September! As departure gets closer, staff at Headquarters, Peace Corps Tanzania, and current Volunteers are helping prepare trainees through pre-departure calls packed with useful information and advice.

The first call is on June 2, so here’s a sneak peek at some of the topics trainees will explore as they prepare for service.

📍 Informative Visit, lasting memories ✨

Peace Corps and the Government of Tanzania had a joint visit to Volunteers’ workplaces in Iringa Region, creating a valuable opportunity for learning, collaboration, and shared experiences.

The visit allowed the delegates to see Volunteers in action, hear community perspectives about their work and value add, and discuss achievements, and witnessed the meaningful impact in communities.

Education Volunteer Megan worked hand in hand with a rural community school on a computer lab project to enhance digital literacy and to expand STEM skills.

Health Volunteers Fran and Lilly and Agriculture Volunteer Griffin featured a range of health and sustainable agriculture projects, including water access, vegetable and fruit tree gardens, chicken projects, tree planting, and income generating activities.

We are grateful for the learning, teamwork, and memorable moments shared throughout the visit. 🤝💚

“Honey, I’m home!” 🍯🐝🌍

In celebration of World Bee Day, we’re highlighting Volunteer Liora’s successful partnership with her community group to implement a PCPP-funded beekeeping project, building and installing 30 new beehives just in time for honey season.

Beyond the hives themselves, Liora and her counterparts also participated in an in-service training focused on marketing, packaging, and processing bee products, strengthening the skills needed to increase both impact and income within the community.

From hive to harvest, this project shows the power of small projects in supporting livelihoods, building local capacity, and promoting environmental stewardship one hive at a time.

With support from the Robert S. Lehman Memorial Fund and Sustainable Agriculture Volunteer Alex, this project came together through strong collaboration among teachers, students, and community partners to bring reliable water access to a primary school in Dodoma, Tanzania 💧🧼🕊️

More than 1,000 students took part in hygiene sessions led by their community health worker, Mama Amani, turning learning into action. They marked the new water tank with handprints to show that it belongs to them, then washed them off using their new skills. A shared effort creating a healthier, stronger school environment!
