Ms Rosie Glazebrook, Chief Executive of the Commonwealth Enterprise & Investment Council (CWEIC), visited Tanzania from 5th to 7th March 2025 as part of a crucial mission to strengthen trade and investment links between Tanzania and the Commonwealth.

Organised by AFRICAN DESK Limited Group, a strategic partner of CWEIC, this working visit marked a key step in consolidating trade and promoting an attractive business climate for intra-African trade and international logistics.

To this end, she approached several operators keen to explore opportunities for economic cooperation and sustainable development.

The Commonwealth Heads of State and Government Summit (CHOGM) is currently ongoing in Apia, Samoa. On Wednesday, 23 October 2024, the Honourable Fiame Naomi Mata'afa, Prime Minister of Samoa, officially launched the Commonwealth Business Forum 2024. In addition to her opening address, several prominent figures shared insights on strategies aimed at enhancing trade within the Commonwealth, focusing on wealth creation and improving the well-being of citizens.

Among the speakers were H.E. Nana Addo Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, the Honourable Gaston Browne, Prime Minister of Antigua and Barbuda, and the Honourable David Lammy, Foreign Secretary of the United Kingdom. Key discussions revolved around the elimination of trade barriers and fostering stronger cooperation among the 56 Commonwealth member states. President Akufo-Addo highlighted the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) as a pivotal partner for advancing trade within the Commonwealth.

Tomorrow, 24 October, the discussions will continue with various panels, including a session on Trade Facilitation. African Desk is pleased to announce that our Executive Chairman will be actively participating in this panel, where we will share our vision on trade and explore ways to enhance business cooperation across the Commonwealth.

Apia, the capital of the Samoan Islands, will be hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) from 21 to 26 October, under the theme: "A Resilient Commonwealth of Equal, Just and Inclusive Societies."

Various forums will take place, focusing on critical issues such as trade, youth, women, health, and climate change.

African Desk is proud to announce that our Executive Chairman, Mr Patient Sayiba Tambwe will be representing the company at the Commonwealth Business Forum, where we will actively participate in the panel discussion on trade facilitation. This is a valuable opportunity for us to engage with global leaders and contribute to shaping a more inclusive and resilient future for international trade.

The Biashara Afrika 2024 (2nd edition of the AfCFTA Business Forum) opened today in Kigali/Rwanda. African Desk delegation are taking an active part in this continental forum. The next 3 days will provide a framework for discussions, the exchange of innovative ideas and the forging of beneficial partnerships with a view to shaping the future of intra-African trade.

Organised by the AfCFTA General Secretariat and under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Rwanda, under the theme "Dare to invent the future of the AfCFTA", this Forum of high continental scope brings together more than 2000 participants from the whole of Africa and the Caribbean, as well as all regions of the world.
