🌤️🚌 Children of Fallen Heroes from the Novovolynsk Community Depart for a Holiday in Denmark

On Thursday, August 13, 15 children of fallen defenders of Ukraine from the Novovolynsk community departed for a summer recreational and educational camp in Denmark.

Novovolynsk Mayor Borys Karpus, together with the children’s families, saw the boys and girls off and wished them a meaningful holiday and many wonderful experiences.

For ten days, children aged 8 to 14 will stay at a specialized camp in the town of Nørager. The organizers have prepared a rich program focused on psychological relief and recreation. The trip includes visits to one of the country’s largest amusement parks, a tropical zoo, an oceanarium, as well as activities at sports complexes and swimming pools.

🤝 The camp was organized by the charitable organization Bevar Ukraine in cooperation with Danish partners and with the support of the Novovolynsk City Council. Since 2023, the foundation has been taking care of the recreation and rehabilitation of Ukrainian children whose parents were killed in the war.

🇺🇦🇩🇪 52 students from our community have returned from an unforgettable trip to Neumünster!

Two weeks filled with new friendships, unforgettable experiences, exciting trips, sports, and wonderful memories — this is how our students spent their summer holiday in Germany.

During their stay, the students had the opportunity to meet the Vice Consul of Ukraine in Hamburg, Borys Drahomeretskyi, the Mayor of Neumünster, Tobias Bergmann, the Deputy Mayor, a representative of the Prime Minister’s Office, and other German officials who expressed their support for Ukraine and our children.

The young travelers also enjoyed a trip to Hamburg, a visit to the zoo, a boat cruise, time at the seaside, numerous sports activities, creative and educational workshops, and, of course, plenty of opportunities to relax and make new friends.

We sincerely thank our German partners in Neumünster for their warm hospitality, unwavering support, and for giving our children the opportunity to spend two joyful weeks filled with new discoveries, meaningful experiences, and unforgettable memories.

🇺🇦🇮🇹 Novovolynsk and the Italian town of Paliano have officially established a partnership, making Paliano our first sister city in Italy.

At the invitation of Mayor Domenico Alfieri, Novovolynsk Mayor Borys Karpus recently paid a working visit to Paliano. The main objective of the visit was to strengthen international cooperation, attract support, and create new opportunities for the Novovolynsk community.

As Italian municipalities are particularly interested in cooperation in the social, educational, and cultural sectors, the discussions focused on these areas. The parties explored opportunities for joint European projects, rehabilitation and recreational programmes in Italy for children of Ukrainian defenders, as well as cultural and sports exchanges.

A separate and particularly important topic of the meetings was Novovolynsk’s energy resilience. The partners discussed attracting European resources for the installation of solar panels, energy storage systems, and cogeneration units to strengthen the city’s critical infrastructure.

Special attention was also given to supporting Ukrainian defenders and addressing the challenges Ukraine continues to face because of the war. It is essential that European partners understand the scale of the struggle Ukrainians are fighting to defend peace and security across Europe.

During the visit, Mayor Borys Karpus invited Mayor Domenico Alfieri to pay a return visit to Novovolynsk to see firsthand how a Ukrainian rear-city community continues to live, work, and develop during wartime.

International partnerships help bring additional resources, knowledge, and opportunities to the community, and cooperation with Paliano marks another important step toward Novovolynsk’s sustainable development and European integration.

This partnership became possible thanks to Lara Levchun, President of the National Congress of Ukrainian Associations in Italy. We sincerely thank Ms. Levchun for her trust, support, kindness, and significant contribution to making this partnership a reality. Her dedication and commitment have brought people together for a shared and meaningful purpose.

🙌 Volunteers from Slovakia Visit Novovolynsk

The Novovolynsk community continues to strengthen its international partnerships and welcome foreign friends who support Ukraine in overcoming the challenges of war. Recently, representatives of the Slovak civic organization Prešov pomáha — Lukáš Belej, František Michalík, and Vladimír Klimeš — together with renowned Slovak journalist and writer Andrej Bán, visited our community.

The delegation began their visit by meeting with the staff of the Veterans Policy Department. They then traveled to the long-term residential care facility in the settlement of Blahodatne, where they delivered humanitarian aid, including hygiene products and essential care supplies for the residents.

The Slovak partners also focused on supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs). They visited the construction site of new housing for displaced families and toured the dormitory on Lutska Street. There, journalist Andrej Bán spoke with women evacuated from eastern Ukraine, who shared their personal stories of escape, resilience, and adaptation to life in the Novovolynsk community.

An important part of the visit was a meeting with Mayor Borys Karpus. During the meeting, the Mayor gave an interview to the Slovak journalist about life in Novovolynsk and the community’s resilience under martial law.

The guests also visited the Inter-School Resource Centre and Novovolynsk Lyceum No. 8, where they toured the school’s bomb shelter.

Throughout the visit, the foreign delegation was accompanied by the staff of the Department of International Cooperation and European Integration.
