The Appropriate Technology Center for water and sanitation (ATC) was established in 2010 by the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) to carry out applied research and promote Water, Hygiene and Sanitation (WASH) appropriate technologies in Uganda. Establishment of the ATC was an upfront recognition of the role of research in bridging the technology gap in promotion of access to safe water and s

anitation. In the country, there are a number of technologies that can effectively address the prevailing water and sanitation challenges and also protect the environment from degradation. However, many of these technologies have remained confined in specific areas and others remain stagnant at the pilot stage. ATC is strategically positioned to identify such technologies study and give them a face lift.
