🇺🇬 A New Dawn for Lira City! 🇺🇬

Yesterday 14 June 2025, I had the great honor of taking oath and office as the Chairperson NRM Lira City at the NRM office in Senior Quarters. It was a moment of pride and responsibility not just for me, but for the entire team that took oath alongside me.

We have officially begun a new chapter of committed leadership and dedicated service to our people. With unity, vision, and determination, we pledge to uphold the values of the National Resistance Movement and serve the people of Lira City with integrity, passion, and results.

We made a solemn commitment to work tirelessly for our community and one of our key goals is clear: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni must get not less than 95% of the votes in Lira City. That is our collective mission, and we shall not rest until it is achieved.

Thank you to everyone who believes in our cause. Together, we rise. Together, we serve. ✊🏾🇺🇬

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE ON THE PASSING OF RTD. COL. TONNY OTOA
Former Prime Minister, Lango Cultural Foundation | Clan Head (Awitong), Abwor Clan

It is with deep sorrow and profound shock that I learnt of the passing of Rtd. Col. Tonny Otoa, former UNLA officer, esteemed Awitong of the Abwor Clan, and former Prime Minister of the Lango Cultural Foundation, who departed from us on 28th April 2025 at his home in Boke, Lira City East Division, Lira City.

The late Rtd. Col. Tonny Otoa was not only my ardent supporter but also a steadfast peacemaker and a true patriot. He was a pillar of Lango, a custodian of our culture, and a hero of liberation. He sacrificed selflessly in service of his people and was deeply committed to the cause of peace and unity in Uganda.

His legacy of leadership, resilience, and cultural pride has left an indelible mark on Lango and the entire nation. His immense contributions will be remembered with deep respect and admiration.

I join the people of Lango and the whole country in mourning this great son of the land. As we celebrate his life and honor his memory, may we find strength in the values he stood for.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Amen.

Hon. Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero
Minister for Health / Woman MP, Lira City

Yesterday, 19th April 2025, I graced a significant event at St. Gracious Secondary School in Lira City, where I officiated the pass out ceremony of 390 newly trained patriots.

Held at the school's main campus, the ceremony marked the culmination of a patriotism training program aimed at nurturing responsible, loyal, and community-oriented citizens. In my remarks, I applauded the young patriots for their commitment and discipline during the course of the training. I encouraged them to uphold the values of patriotism and national pride in all their endeavors.

I am proud of these young men and women for embracing the call to serve their country with honor and integrity because they are now ambassadors of patriotism. I appealed to them to go out and be the change agents our nation needs.

Following the pass out, I joined the school for a grand thanksgiving function celebrating the outstanding performance of students in the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) and Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations. The school registered remarkable results, further cementing its reputation as a center of academic excellence.

During the celebration, I lauded the school’s leadership, particularly the Director of St. Gracious Secondary School Dr. Patrick Olet for setting a high standard in education. I also noted that the school's consistent excellence has elevated the profile of Lira City and the wider Lango Sub-region on the national academic map.

The achievements of St. Gracious are a reflection of visionary leadership and dedication to quality education. This school is not only making Lira proud, but also positioning Northern Uganda as a hub for academic excellence.

The twin events underscored St. Gracious Secondary School's dual focus on academic excellence and civic responsibility, drawing admiration from both local leaders and the wider community.

I and Dr Charles Kiyaga attended the International summit on NewBorn screening in Helsinki, Finland. The minister shared about the partnerships and collaborations that have helped set up the sickle cell newborn screening program in Uganda and what needs to be done to scale it up.

NewBorn screening is an important public health intervention that helps to detect anomalies early at birth and correct them before disabilities set in.
Lira Regional Referral Hospital is one of the centers of excellence where sickle cell newborn screening is carried out and also offers hydroxyurea for those found positive.

While we can never fully repay the debt owed to those who lost their lives defending our nation, we must do everything we can to uphold our commitment to those who've worn the uniform of this great nation and to their families who have made significant sacrifices on our behalf."

This day provides an opportunity for the nation to reflect upon and pay tribute to those individuals who have played pivotal roles in shaping Uganda’s history and identity.

Heroes never die. They live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who would follow in their footsteps.

Happy National Heroes Day to my beloved people of Lira City and fellow Ugandans.

Earlier today, my team in Lira City handed over drugs and other first Aid requirements to the foot pilgrims of Lira Diocese and Lango Diocese who will be trekking to Numugongo for Marty's Day for this year slated on 3rd June 2024. The pilgrims appreciated me so much for the support that I rendered to Lira Diocese and Lango Diocese with First Aid Drugs that will cover them through their journey upto Namugongo.

Hon. Zena Apio Opolot addressed the foot pilgrims at St. Kizito Nursery and Primary School shortly after handing over drugs and other requirements for first Aid. She thanked the pilgrims for devoting their faith and for following the foot steps of those saints who sacrificed and showed their love for God.

Let's put the pilgrims in prayers as they embark on the journey to Namugongo.
