*KAPCHORWA DISTRICT/MUNICIPALITY FACTSHEET*
1. Kapchorwa District has a total of 2 constituencies, 15 Sub Counties/Town Councils, 85 parishes and 641 villages.
2. The total population of Kapchorwa district is 133,621 according to the census report 2024.
3. In the 2021 Presidential Elections, Kapchorwa District had 56,051 registered voters. Out of these, 40,487 (72.2%) voted.
4. His Excellency got 30,590 (77.5%). NUP got 7,542 (19.1%). The others polled 1,334 (3.4%).
5. In 2025, Kapchorwa District has a total of 67,064 voters. The Polling Stations are 186 up from 143 in 2021.
*PARISH DEVELOPMENT MODEL (PDM) DISBURSEMENT*
*Kapchorwa District* with 58 Parishes has cumulatively received Shs. 17,914,166,500=. Out of this, Shs.17,010,566,000= (94.96%) has been disbursed to 17,168 beneficiary households.
*Kapchorwa Municipality* with 27 Parishes has cumulatively received Shs. 8,295,220,115=. Out of this, Shs.7,695,419,000 = (92.88%) has been disbursed to 8,084 beneficiary households.
*EMYOOGA*
The 2 Constituencies of Kapchorwa District have a total of 36 Emyooga SACCOs with 25,226 members. Government has so far disbursed a total of Shs. 1,490,000,000=.
*EDUCATION SECTOR*
*Kapchorwa District has a total of:*
1. 24 Government primary schools with 19,499 pupils enrolled.
2. 5 Government secondary schools with 2,678 students enrolled. All the secondary schools provide Universal Secondary Education and Universal Post Ordinary Level Education and Training.
*Kapchorwa Municipality has a total of:*
1. 16 Government primary schools with 11,754 pupils enrolled.
2. 4 Government secondary schools with 1,738 students enrolled. 3 of the secondary schools provide Universal Secondary Education and Universal Post Ordinary Level Education and Training.
*PRIMARY EDUCATION*
1. Kapchorwa district and Kapchorwa Municipality have a total of 40 government primary schools with 31,253 pupils enrolled.
*SECONDARY EDUCATION*
1. Kapchorwa District has 15 Sub counties with 8 having a government secondary school and 7 not having a secondary school. All the schools provide Universal Secondary Education and Universal Post Ordinary Level Education and Training with a total enrollment of 4,416.
*CONSTRUCTION OF SEED SCHOOLS*
Plans are underway to construct 3 new secondary schools through the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfers (UgIFT) program and the Uganda Secondary Education Expansion Project (USEEP) in Kapchorwa District Local Government. When these secondary schools are completed, only 4 sub-counties will remain without a government secondary school.
*HEALTH SECTOR*
1. Out of a total of 15 Sub-Counties in Kapchorwa district, 1 has a hospital, 1 has a HCIV and 8 Sub-Counties have HCIIIs.
2. The sub counties without a Health facility of HCIIIs and above are 5.
*The following are planned:*
· Plan to upgrade Amukol HCII to HCIII in Amukol S/C.
· Plan to upgrade Chepterech HCII to HCIII in Chepterech S/C.
*WATER SECTOR*
Out of 641 rural villages in Kapchorwa District, 328 have access to a safe water source, representing coverage of (49%). This leaves 313 (51%) villages without access to safe water.
*Status of piped water supply systems in small towns/RGCs*
1. Kapchorwa Municipality Water Supply System – Serving 65,450 people.
2. Sipi Town Board Water Supply System – Serving 10,800 people.
*Ongoing projects.*
Chemosong Gravity Flow Scheme (Chema SC, Chepkongin) – Under construction to extend piped water to underserved mountain communities.
Construction of Matera Piped Water System (Amukol SC, Matera Village).
*Future Plans*
Augmentation and extension of the Sipi Water System to meet the growing domestic and tourism-related water demand.
*WATER FOR PRODUCTION*
*Completed projects.*
1. Cheptui Irrigation Scheme: Located in Kapsinda Sub-county, benefiting 14 farmers directly through a demonstration garden and 45 out growers engaged in horticultural production.
*Ongoing Works:*
Design and engineering studies for the Cheptui Irrigation Extension in Kapsinda are ongoing to increase water availability and bring more farmers under irrigation.
Performance improvement works are in progress at Cheptui to optimize water use and expand coverage.
*Planned Interventions:*
A 12-acre demonstration site at Kapropen will be developed to showcase climate-smart irrigation practices.
A new site will be constructed at Teryet, expanding water for production infrastructure in high-altitude areas.
