Mbarara Municipal Council Public Library

Mbarara Municipal Council Public Library Mbarara Municipal Council Public Library is a government section of Mbarara Municipal Council Local Government.

The Local Government Act, 1997 mandates Local Governments to provide Public Library Services to their communities. The second schedule, part 2, no 7 of the Act, specifically states that the District Local Governments "shall aid and support the establishment and maintenance of....libraries" and part 3, no 1 (h) states that urban councils "shall be responsible to.....establish, acquire, erect, main

tain, promote, assist or control....Libraries....." Refer to part VIII No. 84-86 for framework for funding. The purpose of this page therefore is to let the community know that these services are available and that they are entitled to use them so that we promote literacy together. This is also aimed at reaching out to anyone that feels they can contribute to this cause

The Library has a total collection of 7,357 volumes of assorted books. The Library is managed under the Department of Community Based Services which is situated at the Head Offices on plot 12 Galt Road, Booma, Kamukuzi Division.

Products

The information resources in the Library provide access to open government information, access to local knowledge(like information about local cultural norms,practices and symbols etc) among others.

-Reading room facilities
-Reference Services
-Lending
-services for the adult literacy learners
-Youth services like seminars,class projects.
-services to adults-meeting place for adults discussing issues of interest and concern to the community.

-Information Communication Technologies
-Children services like reading events,quizzes and library supported class projects.
-services for people with disabilities like braille and 'talking books'
-Extension services-information to farmers,pregnant women,unemployed youth etc by taking information to communities using a mobile library.
