Customer Service Week 2025 Concludes in Soroti

The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) has successfully concluded its week-long Customer Service Week 2025 activities in Soroti District Local Government, marking the end of a vibrant engagement aimed at enhancing service delivery across all sectors.

The week, which featured a range of activities focused on improving citizen engagement and promoting accountability, was officially closed this afternoon.

Earlier in the week, Soroti District joined the rest of the country in commemorating Customer Service Week 2025, organized by MoFPED to strengthen the partnership between government institutions and the citizens they serve.

The initiative aimed to:

1. Promote public awareness about government services;

2. Educate the public on the range of services provided; and

3. Collect feedback to improve efficiency and accountability.

The Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elly Piwang, officially presided over the closing ceremony, where he commended the Ministry for spearheading efforts to bring government services closer to the people and for fostering a culture of responsiveness within the public service.

DISTRICT UPDATE

This afternoon, Soroti District Local Government commissioned a number of capital projects aimed at strengthening service delivery in the district.

Among the projects commissioned were:

1. General Maternity Ward – constructed in the Financial Year 2024/2025 by JAPEMO Holdings Ltd at a cost of UGX 188 million.

2. Two-Classroom Block – constructed at Ogwolo Primary School to improve the learning environment and accommodate the growing number of pupils.

The commissioning exercise was led by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Hajji Imran Muluga, alongside the District Chairperson, Hon. Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu (LC V). They were accompanied by members of the District Executive Committee (DEC), Area District Councilors from Oculoi and Katine Sub-counties, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), District Internal Security Officer (DISO), sub-county leadership, technical staff, and community members.

The leaders commended the government for its continued support towards improving health and education services in Soroti District and urged the community to take good care of the newly commissioned facilities.

📣 Change of Guard – RDC Soroti District

We welcome Hajji Imran Muluga, the new Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Soroti District. He officially received office from Mr. Eseru Paul, who has been transferred to Amuria District — Mr. Muluga’s previous duty station.

The handover ceremony took place this morning at the RDC office, witnessed by the district security team and technical staff.

💬 “I believe in openness and collaboration. My door is open to all,” said RDC Muluga as he pledged to lead with an open-policy administration.

*District Update*

Today, the leadership of Soroti District officially launched the drilling of a borehole in Abyarai Village, Oculoi Sub-county, aimed at improving access to safe and clean water for the local community.

The launch was officiated by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Mr. Bakak Ronald, in the presence of the District Chairperson, Hon. Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu.

Other key stakeholders in attendance included the District Internal Security Officer (DISO), members of the District Executive Committee (DEC), the Deputy
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Principal Assistant Secretary (PAS), the District Water Officer (DWO), the District Community Development Officer (DCDO), the District Natural Resources Officer (DNRO), sub-county leadership, and community members of Abyarai Village.

According to the District Water Officer, Mr. Oriekot Alex, Soroti District currently has a water coverage rate of 86% in terms of population access.
The Adamasiko water RGC was also commissioned.

*In a related development* , the team also conducted a site monitoring visit and held a meeting at Soroti District Headquarters in Katine to assess the ongoing construction of the new District Administration Block.

This construction project is being undertaken by the UPDF Engineers Brigade under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Soroti District and the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.

The team expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works, which are currently estimated at 25% completion.

Construction of Awaliwal Community Technical and Vocational School Underway

Construction work has begun on the much-anticipated Awaliwal Community Technical and Vocational School, a project aimed at providing practical education opportunities for students who may not be able to continue with secondary education.

This initiative, spearheaded by the community of Awaliwal, seeks to equip young people with technical skills that will enhance their future prospects. The project has received significant support from CIDI, an NGO operating in Soroti district, which has played a crucial role in funding and facilitating the construction.

The community extends its heartfelt appreciation to the leadership of Soroti district, particularly the LC V Chairperson, Hon. Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, for his lobbying efforts; the Chief Administrative Officer, Mr. Elly Piwang, for his technical guidance; and the LC III Chairperson of Awaliwal, Hon. Ebau Peter, for his dedication to the project. Special recognition also goes to the SACAO of Awaliwal Sub-county, Mr. Okiror John Michael, for his committed stewardship.

This initiative will be remembered as a transformative milestone for the people of Awaliwal, contributing to the growth and development of the community for years to come.
