Many disabilities/impairments such as Blindness, Hydrocephrous, Spinabafida, among others, have a connection with malnutrition. Initiatives like community vegetable gardening campaigns have been started in Wakiso District to tap the potential of Floric acid which encourages mothers and young girls to eat rich vegetables and fruits as a means to reduce on the incidences of Hydrocephrous and Spina
bafida. The project also believes that all stakeholders in agriculture (like researchers, policy makers, extension workers, development partners, scienticists, donors, institutions, collaborators etc ) are obliged to reach out and train farmers practically with new techniques and ideas to boost farm sector in a big way. Awareness about latest farm practices is the key to bring back past glory of agriculture like designing adaptive strategies for climate change among small scale holder farmers. Meeting farmers on their farmlands at grass roots brings new techniques, morale and ideas to farmers to boost agricultural productivity. “No doubt our scientists and researchers have done a lot of work to boost the sector shaping it on the basis of modern technology but still its benefits have not percolated to small scale farmers of the country”. The anticipated outcome is Improving the Health and Socio-economic situation of marginalized communities like People with Disabilities and their families through promoting their active participation in community efforts to eradicate poverty and hunger and empowering grass roots to overcome socio-economic constraints.
