AFRICA'S LARGEST LAKE:

LAKE VICTORIA (68,000 square kilometres)

Lake Victoria is shared by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. It is both the largest freshwater lake in Africa and the second largest worldwide (exceeded in size only by North America’s Lake Superior).
Despite its large area, Lake Victoria is relatively shallow, with a maximum depth reaching down to 84 meters. On average, the depth is only 40 meters.
Eighty percent of the water in this lake comes from rain, while the rest flows in from rivers. If you visit, you will see many species of birds, including herons, kingfishers and sandpipers. You cannot swim here, but you can visit Mfangano Island for spectacular bird-watching, and also trek through the surrounding jungle to see monkeys and monitor lizards.

THE INDEPENDENCE MONUMENT.

The Independence Monument, standing majestically at a height of 6 metres, is a must see if you are travelling to Kampala. The monument situated in the heart of the capital between the Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Grand Imperial Hotel and Stan-Chart bank, is one of the most distinctive landmark of Uganda. Ugandas Independence Monument was constructed by former British Colonial Government just before Uganda celebrated its first independence on Tuesday 9th October 1962.The monument depicts a man unwrapping a child and raising the child to touch the sky. The sculpture signifies a new born country let free from colonialism and bondages. Today with the beautification around the monument, you need to carry your camera for the memorable capture of the sight. This is among kampala's top Attractions and best sight when doing city walks

AFRICA'S LONGEST SERVING PRESIDENTS

Part two :

PAUL BIYA, PRESIDENT OF CAMEROON

Its over 35 years since Cameroon's President Paul Biya took office, and while his opponents are calling for him to stand aside when the country holds a presidential election this year, his supporters are in celebrations and singing songs praising Biya for bringing peace and development to Cameroon, and emphasizing that at 84, Biya is still strong enough to lead and are urging him to be their candidate again in this year's presidential election.
Biya became president on November 6, 1982, after the resignation of the Central African state's first leader, Ahmadou Ahidjo, but he had served as Prime Minister from 1975 to 1982, technically ruling the country.
President Biya (Photo: VOA News)
He has won five elections since then, and in 2008 he revised the 1996 constitution to remove term limits. He's also maintained a close relationship with France, Cameroon's former colonial master.
I mean, how dare people expect democratic transitions every now and then?
Biya is not the only lifetime president that Africa has. As at 2015, Africa had about 6
dictators leaders who had been ruling for more than 30 years each, and at that time they had a combine tenure of 201 years. Some are less, but what the hell are you doing ruling a democratic economy for more than 8 years?

UGANDA'S FIRST PRESIDENT MADE A HISTORICAL SPEECH ON UGANDA'S INDEPENDENCE DAY AT KOLOLO ON 9TH OCTOBER 1962.

Here it is :

*******************

Fellow Countrymen,

It shall go down in history, that, it was on the 9th October, 1884, when
Ssekabaka Walugembe Muteesa I, the founder of Modern Day Uganda, breathed
his last. Ssekabaka Muteesa I was buried in his palace at Nnabulagala,
Kasubi on 25th October, 1884.

Therefore, I feel both honoured and humbled, to be named after my great
grandfather Ssekabaka Walugembe Muteesa, and also because I have lived till
this day when the British have relinquished power into our hands, after
being under their protection for a period of 68 years.

During that period, we have experienced moments of sadness. However, there
have also been moments of joy. Nevertheless, we thank the good Lord for His
grace, love and, all the efforts made by the Missionaries to develop our
nation and country, Uganda.

Now, that we are independent, I appeal to you all to work with all your
might in whatever you shall do, so as to bring glory to both our kingdoms
and the State of Uganda. Let us not allow our differences in nations,
religion and colour to be a divisive factor among our people.

God Bless Uganda,

Sir Col. Edward Muteesa II

kabaka

9th October 1962

KING CWA II KABALEEGA, OMUKAMA OF BUNYORO

King Cwa 11 Kabalega born on 18 June 1853 ruled Bunyoro-Kitara from 1869 to 1899. King Kabalega had great dreams and visions for his Kingdom. He expanded the Kingdom using his well trained army of “Abarusuura” (soldiers). He mounted a bloody resistance against the powers of colonialization led by British for five years from 1 January 1869 until 9th April 1899 when he was short and captured by the British. He was exiled on the Seychelles Islands until he was granted permission to return to his kingdom in 1923. He however died in Jinja on 6 April 1923 shortly before he reached his kingdom. With King Kabalega gone, the Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom was greatly weakened military, socially and economically and colonial persecution of the kingdom continued unabated.
Mparo Palace
King Kabalega palace was at Mparo located 4km on Hoima-Masindi Road. This is the place where he first met Sir Emin Pasha in 1871. King Kabalega was laid to rest at Mparo when he died in 1923.King Sir Tito Winyi who succeeded King Kabalega was also laid to rest in this palace. Mparo has also become a burial place of close members of the royal family.
