DID YOU KNOW? The Integrated Tactical Network (ITN) is NOT just for dismounted troops! Engineers with PM Tactical Radios and their US Army Combat Capabilities Development Command C5ISR Center counterparts have been collaborating with Soldiers with the 2d Cavalry Regiment in Vilseck, Germany over the past year to integrate ITN Capability Set 21 into Stryker vehicles, which will enable Soldiers to employ ITN capabilities while transitioning from mounted to dismounted operations. The ITN is now integrated into multiple key leader and lower tactical Stryker vehicle variants, featuring mobile broadband kits for 4G LTE, Manpack and Leader radios, Tactical Server Infrastructure computers, single channel radios, and Tactical Radio Integration Kits depending on Stryker variant, resulting in a partial ITN CS21 fielding to the unit.

Army to pilot on-the-move network to enhance armored brigade lethality

ABCT OTM NETWORKING PILOT: The Army is preparing for an upcoming pilot to evaluate a variety of new and emerging commercial On The Move (OTM) network communications prototype solutions integrated onto select armored brigade combat team (ABCT) vehicle platforms. The service is working side-by-side with industry partners and the pilot unit -- the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, at Fort Stewart, Georgia – to evaluate potential solutions that could deliver resilient OTM network communications to the Army’s most lethal force. (Vehicle platforms seen here are for pilot prototyping only and are not the objective platform.)

Today the U.S. Army released the Army Unified Network Plan, which is the critical enabler to establishing the Army’s Multi-Domain Operations capable force by 2028. The Unified Network enables Army formations, as part of the Joint Force, to operate in highly contested and congested operational environments with the speed and global range to achieve decision dominance and maintain overmatch.

The plan shapes, synchronizes, integrates and governs Unified Network efforts and aligns the personnel, organizational structure and capabilities required to enable MDO at all echelons.

This afternoon, PEO C3T honored Ms. Mindy Gabbert, who was awarded the Civilian Aide to the Army (CASA) coin for her admirable leadership and outstanding efforts in establishing the Capability Set (CS) 23 initial baseline at the recent CS23 Preliminary Design Review (PDR). As the PEO’s Project Officer for Capability Set Integration, Ms. Gabbert not only coordinated the review of all of the tactical network modernization projects targeted for CS23, but she also led the analysis of the viability of those projects against a rubric that evaluated the clarity of the requirements, maturity of the technology, availability of funding to evolve and subsequently field the capabilities, and the acquisition pathway planned to deliver the capabilities to the Soldier. Ms. Gabbert personally presented the outcomes of the CS23 PDR in multiple venues to a wide range of Army senior leaders (up to the four-star level), as well as Congressional staff members.

Representing the Secretary of the Army, Mrs. Mary Jane Jernigan, CASA for Maryland, proudly presented Mindy with the coin and certificate at a ceremony hosted by PEO C3T, MG Robert M. Collins. The CASA Coin Reward Program recognizes individuals whose efforts have had a major impact upon Army, state, installation, and community objectives.

“Mindy is the driving force behind the Capability Set process and governance structure that unifies three PEOs (C3T, IEW&S, and Soldier) and the Network Cross-Functional Team (N-CFT) on a plan to deliver new capabilities in support of the Army’s two-year incremental network modernization strategy,” said Collins. “She continues to prove that she is an invaluable resource, and a tremendous asset to our organization, and beyond.”

Congratulations Mindy!

ESB-E FIELDING IN EUROPEAN THEATER: This week PM Tactical Network, with support from CECOM trainers, will complete Scalable Network Node (SNN) new equipment training for the 44th Expeditionary Signal Battalion, stationed in Germany. This is the fourth unit to be converted to an ESB-Enhanced formation fielded with the modernized ESB-E Capability Set 21 baseline network equipment set. The equipment package includes the new SNN ground satellite terminal and baseband kit seen here, which replaces the unit’s much larger At-The-Halt Tactical Network Transport equipment, increasing unit mobility and command post survivability. The reduced size and system complexity of the SNN will enable the ESB-E to significantly increase its network support to other units with more nodes and less manpower, while reducing transportation requirements by over 60 percent. Soldiers from the 50th ESB-E and 63rd Expeditionary Signal Battalion successfully executed a line-of-sight network shot from Camp Mackall, NC, to the main post on Fort Bragg, NC – due in no small part to the innovative Soldiers who installed their Terrestrial Transmission Line of Sight (TRILOS) above the tree line on the top of a 100 foot tall fire lookout tower.

In collaboration with PM Expeditionary Energy & Sustainment Systems (PM E2S2) and PdM Network Modernization (PdM NETMOD), Product Manager Command Post Integrated Infrastructure (PdM CPI2) continued New Equipment Training (NET) this week at U.S. Army Fort Carson in support of the upcoming CPI2 operational assessment (OA) with the 4th Infantry Division.

To date, four product offices across three Program Executive Offices (PEOs) have been involved in the NET effort, enabling more than 70 Soldiers to receive at least one of the nine courses provided with one week of NET remaining.

Key personnel coordination continues with the unit and industry partners as CPI2 carries on with experimental equipping under the CPI2 Directed Requirement Phase 2, signaling a major milestone for program's Increment 0 effort.
