A huge thank you to the Board of Chosen Freeholders for hearing us out this evening at their meeting. They were interested, asked many questions, and vocalized a willingness to work with us going forward. We will continue to follow up, but we left tonight with HOPE! The biggest thank you to the Board Members, Staff, Councilwoman Lamberson, and especially, our Graduates that came out and shared their heartfelt stories-your stories provide such inspiration!!!

We have reached over 500 signatures! We also have had the Keyport Council unanimously support an initiative to reach out to the Freeholders in support of Manna House in huge part to Councilwoman Lamberson and a past graduate Amy Baddeley. We need more support though as we still have not heard from any Assemblywoman or man, Congressman or woman, Senator, or Freeholder. Please reach out and share the latest article on our closing! We still need your help! We have reached over 450 signatures and over 100 comments on the petition at change.org. We very much appreciate the outpouring of support! Councilwoman Lamberson of Keyport has reached out to us, and staff and past graduates will be attending the town council meeting tomorrow. If you'd like to come out in person and show your support please call 732-566-8774, the meeting is scheduled for tomorrow evening at 7 p.m., located at the Keyport Municipal Building. We also sent a letter along with the petition comments and supporting documentation to all public representatives that serve the population of Monmouth County. It is with breaking hearts that we officially announce the closing of Manna House doors on March 4th. If this was due to an end of homelessness for women and children in Monmouth County, it would be a reason to celebrate. Unfortunately, it is due to such stringent eligibility requirements that Monmouth County Social Services has become unable to place women in our program. This is despite the fact that we receive over five phone calls each week from desperate and homeless women with children pleading with us for help. Unfortunately, our organization depends on Monmouth County to place women with us.

To the women who have been in our program, you have touched our lives with your strength and perseverance. You remain our inspiration.

We will not stop fighting for you as we are moving to create public awareness of the continued issues that face homeless and working poor women and children in our county. We will be soon posting a petition and will post contact information so that those who are interested in helping us to change this injustice, can do so.

Some Friday afternoon inspiration! We often write about the successes of the women who come to Manna House and work hard to attain their achievements. We'd like to share the story of Tiara, who moved into Manna House with her mom and brother when she was five. She is now twenty-one and we are so grateful to have played a small part in her family's lives. Read her story below in her own words.
