April 26, 2021 - APG daytime and nighttime testing may be heard in community

ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND, Md. - APG has daytime and nighttime firing scheduled for April 26-30, 2021, approximately 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Noise may be heard in some areas off the installation.

These operations are not hazardous to residents in our surrounding communities and are integral to ensuring continued readiness of service members.

Organizations on APG take every measure to mitigate instances when training or testing becomes problematic to residents off the installation. To ensure we minimize the impact to our neighbors, we monitor the weather and the noise readings continuously throughout each day. APG leadership takes noise complaints very seriously and wants to provide as much transparency as possible to the surrounding communities without compromising the security of the missions conducted here.

If, at any time, anyone in the surrounding communities is concerned about testing at Aberdeen Proving Ground, they are encouraged to contact the installation at 410-278-4415.

⚠ AREA OF WALKER ST WATER UPDATE ⚠
DPW crews identified the source of the discoloration earlier this week linked to Harford County’s Annual Hydrant Flushing program along Route 40. The flushing of the hydrants by the County staff loosened iron and other mineral deposits in the mains which cause the discoloration of water. The City purchases 400,000 gallons per day from the County that is delivered through the Edmond Street Pump Station along route 40. County staff will provide future notice when flushing in this region so that our crews can take action to address. Water is safe to use and consume during these maintenance operations. We apologize for this inconvenience.

Leidos Field at Ripken Stadium is undergoing a face lift—the stadium will enter its 19th baseball season with a new Shaw™ synthetic turf playing surface built by Sports Fields, Inc., a nationally renowned field builder. Additionally, fans will be able to take in the game with greater clarity than ever before under the new Ephesus LED lighting system being installed by NGU Lighting. These projects are funded by state grants, and the IronBirds worked closely with the City of Aberdeen to find the best contractors for the jobs. The lights and new playing surface will allow better affordability and flexibility for community events, like the IronBirds’ upcoming April 23rd movie night, as well as youth sports, Harford County High School graduations, and much more! Call (410) 297-9292 for information from the IronBirds on the improvements and the upcoming IronBirds minor league season!

An estimated 240 million calls are made to 9-1-1 in the U.S. each year. In many areas, 80% or more are from wireless devices.

• 9-1-1 is for police, fire and medical emergencies only. Non-emergency calls should be directed to non-emergency phone numbers; such as 410-272-2122.

• Details are critical. Stay on the line with the 9-1-1 operator and answer all the questions that they ask.

• Provide an accurate location, if you do not know the exact address, provide the call taker with all the details that you can. Look for landmarks, cross streets, signs, and buildings. First responders need an accurate location to respond as fast as possible. Try to stay calm and speak clearly.

• Don’t hang up when calling 9-1-1. If you called by mistake, let the operator know.

• DO NOT call 9-1-1 for jokes or prank calls.

⚠ KNOWN ISSUE: Water Discoloration Around Walker Street ⚠
The Department of Public Works has received several complaints today regarding discolored water in the areas on sections of 600 Block of Walker Street, Webb Street, South Drive and Carol Ave. We are still investigating the cause of this, our staff is flushing the system in the affected areas to alleviate the issue. If a resident is experiencing discoloration in their water, run each fixture in the home including, hoses, sink faucets, bath tubs, showers and toilets for several minutes. Water should be flushed at each fixture until clear. This could take up to 5 - 10 minutes. Affected residents should contact us at 410-272-1600, then dial 3 for Public Works, and then 3 For Maint (water system complaints). Once we have all documented cases, we will make contact with those residence once we have more information on conditions and the measures taken to correct the problem. We understand that the presence of discoloration that occasional occurs in our water system from time to time is frustrating, the water system still meets EPA standards and is safe to drink.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank the Aberdeen Police Department for their increased speed patrol in my neighborhood. My husband and I purchased this home 11 months ago. We have 3 cement safety polls on the corner of our lot that have been struck 4 separate times by speeding vehicles coming around this corner. I called and emailed the police department and since then I have seen several police officers giving out tickets on my street and the cross streets and so far (fingers crossed) know one has struck the safety pools again.
Shout out and thank you to Dave Holcomb and the snow removal crew. On Thursday Dave fixed my mailbox in just a few short hours, then permanently by the next day. He was very quick to respond and did a nice job on the mail box. I'm sure that was a rough day for Dave and his crew.
What happened at target I just drove by and saw firetrucks.
This morning we woke up to no water. There was a main break on Andrews Rd. Thanks to the brave and hearty crew who fixed our water main break in such a timely way. And, oh by the way, it was 20deg out!! So thanks doubly for braving the cold while providing excellent service to our community.
