Media Release: January 02, 2020, 9:30 a.m.
Aberdeen, MD – The Aberdeen Police Department has a new “Blessing Box” at the police station that will help those in need.
Located in the lobby of the police station, the APD’s Blessing Box is accessible 24/7, and was created as a place where people can leave donated goods for others to pick up anonymously- everything from non-perishable food to personal care items.
The Blessing Box was the idea of Officer Cory Lightner. After proposing the idea to his patrol sergeant, it was decided the shift would pitch in and purchase the necessary supplies to build and paint the box together. After completing the Blessing Box, Sergeant Rick Clark unveiled the box at a monthly staff meeting with the saying, “Take What You Need, Leave What You Can.” Chief Trabert was very impressed with the idea and immediately approved the placement of the Blessing Box in station’s lobby.
The Aberdeen Police Department encourages individuals, community groups, or businesses to drop off items that may fill an immediate need of one of our neighbors. The library and Festival Park attract lots of children to the area of the station. Snacks and other food items will be available to those kids who might need some food or a drink.

UPDATE (3:04PM) - Water service has been restored.

UPDATE: Due to an emergency break near 98 Mt Royal, we had to isolate the water main along Mt Royal Ave. Unfortunately this will affect all residents on Mt Royal, Hemlock, Ferndale, Laurel, and some on Crestmont. The church and middle school on Mt Royal still have water service.

We hope to have water restored before 3:00pm. When service is restored, residents should expect some momentary air and discoloration in their lines which should clear up.

I just wanted to take a moment and thank the Aberdeen Police Department for their increased speed patrol in my neighborhood. My husband and I purchased this home 11 months ago. We have 3 cement safety polls on the corner of our lot that have been struck 4 separate times by speeding vehicles coming around this corner. I called and emailed the police department and since then I have seen several police officers giving out tickets on my street and the cross streets and so far (fingers crossed) know one has struck the safety pools again.
Shout out and thank you to Dave Holcomb and the snow removal crew. On Thursday Dave fixed my mailbox in just a few short hours, then permanently by the next day. He was very quick to respond and did a nice job on the mail box. I'm sure that was a rough day for Dave and his crew.
What happened at target I just drove by and saw firetrucks.
This morning we woke up to no water. There was a main break on Andrews Rd. Thanks to the brave and hearty crew who fixed our water main break in such a timely way. And, oh by the way, it was 20deg out!! So thanks doubly for braving the cold while providing excellent service to our community.
