I am a Republican because…

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored. I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiate have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity. I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical func

tions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations and that the best government is that which governs least. I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people. I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times. I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world. FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government. Central Committee

Thank you to the Dickinson Co Farm Bureau Assn for hosting today's candidate forum.

We have a strong group of candidates who care deeply about Kansas and its future. Property taxes and education were major topics of discussion, and there is still work to do. But I think it's clear Alana McWilliams will do a great job at the State Board of Education!

A special thank you to Troy Leith and Midwest Meats for their hospitality and for providing a great venue for the conversation.

“So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””

🗳️ The Event That Changed Judicial Selection in Kansas

On the August 4th ballot there is a constitutional amendment that would change how Supreme Court justices are selected.

❓You may be wondering why did Kansas adopt the current system for selecting Supreme Court justices. ❓

The answer goes back nearly 70 years to an event known as the “triple play scandal.”

In 1956, Kansas Governor Fred Hall lost his bid for reelection. Shortly before leaving office, a series of resignations and appointments resulted in Hall being appointed to a vacancy on the Kansas Supreme Court.

Many Kansans viewed the sequence of events as an example of politics having too much influence over the selection of judges.

The controversy sparked a statewide discussion about judicial independence and public trust in the courts.

In 1958, Kansas voters approved a constitutional amendment creating the merit-selection process that remains in place today.

The current ballot question asks voters whether Kansas should continue using that system or return to electing Supreme Court justices.
