The French Robertson Unit recently held a highly successful “STOP the Drug Rally”, an initiative focused on addressing the challenges of substance abuse. The event brought together unit leadership, guest speakers, and the program advocates who delivered powerful, motivating messages centered on recovery, responsibility, and long- term change.

Speakers emphasized the importance of breaking the cycle of addiction- both the patterns that contribute to incarceration and the struggles that often persist during confinement. The rally encouraged participants to recognize their potential for change and highlighted the resources available to support their journey toward sobriety and personal growth.

This Large-scale effort engaged approximately 740 inmates, reflecting the strong interest and willingness within the population to seek positive transformation. Through shared stories, education, and evidence-based messaging, the event reinforced the department’s broader mission of rehabilitation and preparing individuals to re-enter society as productive, stable citizens.

Transforming Lives Behind the Walls

In the heart of our prison system, something powerful is happening—change, growth, and hope. Trained Inmate Life Skills Coaches are stepping into some of the toughest environments to do some of the most meaningful work: helping incarcerated individuals rebuild from the inside out.
These coaches aren’t just teaching budgeting, communication, or conflict resolution. They’re planting seeds of self-worth, accountability, and resilience. They’re showing that even in confinement, transformation is possible.
Every time a coach helps someone learn how to manage emotions, set goals, or prepare for life after release, they’re not just changing one life—they’re impacting families, communities, and futures.
Let’s give credit where it’s due. To the life skills coaches working in prison settings: your work matters. You’re helping rewrite stories that many thought were already finished.

FSP 30-Day Fitness Challenge
The Forever Sober Program (FSP) focuses on the creating, improving and maintaining three forms of sobriety in the participating men: sober mind, sober body, and sober spirit. Thirteen men assisted in creating and completed the first sober body physical fitness challenge. “The fire 50” challenge required that each participating man preformed (50) burpees, (50) pull ups, and a three-minute plank every day for thirty days, all in front of a witness. The program improved each man’s sober body through physical fitness, each man’s sober mind through discipline, integrity and accountability, while also improving each man’s sober spirit through the personal recognition of success in a grueling daily challenge. The phenomenal success of this pilot challenge has set the precedent for future programs created by the men of the Forever Sober Program, such as the next fitness challenge “The Stairway to Heaven”, our hats are off to the men who say, “The next step is never enough”.

FSP Sobriety Milestone
The Forever Sober Program recognizes the 23 men who have reached a major milestone in their personal recovery: six months of sobriety. These 23 men are the first cohort of candidates who admitted to suffering from substance abuse issues and have proven that sobriety is an accomplishable goal. While living in the therapeutic wing, these men passed regularly issued UA’s. To help maintain their sobriety, these men spend the majority of their days with their assigned sponsors and have proven to be 100% accountable to their dream of no longer being controlled by substance abuse. These men have risen above expectations and fully participated in the daily educational schedule of the program. In addition, this group contributes to the living areas cleanliness and assists in a wide range of positive and productive programs across the unit. This major milestone would not have been realized without the dedication of Robertson’s Administration to fostering and maintaining the opportunities provided through the FSP. This major milestone proves that “It takes all us” is not just an important Robertson Unit maxim, but a lifestyle these men have claimed as their own.

On July 9th, 24 men graduated from the discipleship class “More Than Conquerors”. This class helps men navigate through life’s hardship during incarceration. Participants are assisted in dealing with struggles such as: drug addiction, suicidal tendencies, childhood trauma and sexual abuse. CVCA Volunteer Francisco Damian teaches men that God and God alone can break the chains of addiction and abuse in their lives. In addition to Mr. Damian, inmate coordinator Tony Chavez and (9) inmate mentors assist participants on their journey through 24 weeks of discipleship training and recovery from their struggles and addictions. Please help congratulate these men for the courage they have shown in facing their past and overcoming their struggles!

Spanish Church Family Day #2
Attendants were so grateful for the different testimonies from brothers in white about how God has been changing their lives and how this Spanish service has helped them grow in their faith. A huge thanks to the administration for all the support they gave to have this kind of event. Thank you so much for all the volunteers, all the donations, and all the prayers. It was truly an amazing service and meal for all the families involved.
After the spiritual service, inmates and family shared a delicious Mexican meal composed of: (5) different dishes, spicy sauces, fresh fruit, and exquisite desserts. In addition to the meal, everyone enjoyed the traditional horchata, lemonade, and Pepsi cola.
