Sanchez Stands Up To Pass Gun Safety Laws
This is about saving lives. Thank you Rep. Malcolm Kenyatta for joining in my efforts to pass my legislation that would help keep firearms in the hands of responsible owners by making sure lost or stolen guns are reported to law enforcement. We are now calling on the majority party to bring this and other commonsense gun safety bills up for a vote and help better protect Pennsylvanians.
Discussing WIC, Medical Marijuana During State Budget Hearings
I was glad to be able to ask some of the more frequent questions asked to me by so many of you. Instead of giving you a synopsis, here are the answers from Dr. Levine and her Deputy Secretary themselves.
Sanchez Helping Seniors Ride SEPTA For Free
Are you or someone you know interested in getting a SEPTA Key Senior ID Card? My office can help!
Sanchez Hosts Hearing To Raise Autism Awareness
I'm committed to ensuring individuals living on the autism spectrum have access to the resources and care they need to live productively as members of their community. I brought the PA House Democratic Policy Committee to the Abington School District to discuss what support services are needed in public schools and how my plan would help improve interactions with first responders.
Stand Up Against Hate
There’s no place for hate in this country, period. I proudly joined Senator Art Haywood, fellow lawmakers, and local leaders to stand up against racism, anti-Semitism, homophobia, and xenophobia that continues fueling senseless violence. We must work together to protect our communities and ensure our children grow up in a society without fear they’ll be targets because of their gender, color, faith, or who they choose to love.
The Cost Of Littering For Pennsylvania
We must stop treating the Commonwealth like a trash can. Litter comes with a more than $10 million price-tag that you are left paying. Please join in our efforts to cut these costs, protect our communities, and keep Pennsylvania clean.
Pushing For Gun Safety In Our Communities
We must continue to push for gun safety in our communities. This morning I asked Office of the Budget Secretary Jen Swails how ensuring adequate funding for Pennsylvania's gun background check system fits into the Administration’s broader efforts to combat gun violence in the Commonwealth.
Access To Nutritious Food and Sustainable Farming
Access to nutritious food is critical for families across the Commonwealth, especially our children. However, proposed cuts are threatening to impact organic opportunities and limit research into sustainable farming measures, which could mean less fruits, vegetables and fresh dairy and meat products at our food banks. I expressed my concerns during today’s budget hearing with the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
Alcohol Safety Concerns
Here’s a startling statistic: 33% of children 8-12 years-old have tried alcohol. We must educate our kids at an early age about the dangers of underage drinking, and emphasize responsible consumption for adults. I highlighted my concerns to the PA Liquor Control Board during a House budget hearing in Harrisburg, where I explored how they’re working to promote alcohol education and safety within their mission.
Gun Safety Background Check System
Too many lives are lost at the hands of people who shouldn’t have guns in the first place. That’s why I’m a strong supporter of the PA State Police’s “PICS” (PA Instant Check System) and its expansion to ALL firearms transfers in the Commonwealth. PICS provides instant access to records to determine if a person is eligible to buy a firearm. During today’s budget hearing, I sought answers about how to best fund this system and help prevent future tragedies. We have a good system that works when we use it, it has the capacity to handle more background checks, so let’s expand that use for ALL firearms transfers.
Addressing Contamination Concerns
I’m working to make sure we have safe, clean drinking water and issues like the PFAS/PFOA contamination involving the Willow Grove Naval Air Station are addressed and not ignored. I attended today’s budget hearing in Harrisburg to ensure the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has the resources to protect our communities.
Discussing Gun Safety Report During Budget Hearing
I’m working hard to raise awareness of all the costs attributable to the gun violence epidemic. Enforcing gun safety recommendations from the Pennsylvania Auditor General would be a good start to addressing the problem and I discussed this with him during yesterday’s budget hearing in Harrisburg. I will try to take it even further with gun safety legislation session too. Enough is enough. The statistics are staggering.
Protecting PA
I’m proud to work alongside Attorney General Josh Shapiro in protecting our children, victims of abuse, seniors, and veterans. During this week’s budget hearings, I’m making sure the AG’s office has the resources needed to continue standing up for Pennsylvanians.
Sanchez Fights For Seniors at Budget Hearings
Older Pennsylvanians are the backbone of our communities, and I’m fighting in Harrisburg to make sure they’re taken care of. Today, we kicked off a series of budget hearings, where I addressed the Dept. of Aging to see how they’re supporting LGBTQ seniors and the steps they’re taking to help those suffering from hunger. This is your money, and I’m attending these meetings to make sure the state budget is putting ALL Pennsylvanians first.
Rally for Gun Safety at the Capitol
I’m proud to stand with advocates and fight back against gun violence. Too many innocent lives have been lost. I’m pushing two pieces of legislation that would help protect our communities.
Ready To Serve!
Today, I took the oath of office to stand up for my hometown, protect them from gun violence and the opioid crisis, and ensure they have access to affordable healthcare.
