What a great day for another community event!

Acton’s inaugural Community Wellness Fair, organized by the Economic Development Office, took place at Gould’s Plaza and featured businesses and organizations committed to promoting well-being.

I was tabling with the Acton Woman's Club, but also enjoyed participating in the community art projects, and visiting the Amiga booth run by fellow Acton-Boxborough Community Compass volunteer Paula.

Let’s keep taking care of the environment and taking care of each other!

Yesterday, the Acton Community Dog Park was officially opened! Zane, Bugsy, and Dash were delighted to race around to try it out! It was a joyful ribbon cutting event!

It was so wonderful to hear the story of the lengthy journey and hard work of so many dedicated and passionate volunteers and town officials to make this park for dogs and their humans a reality. Support came from a number of sources - the Stanton Foundation, the Select Board, the Community Preservation Committee, the Friends of the ACDP and our local delegation!

The Acton community is strong and connected, in part, because of the many public spaces like these where people can come together and connect.

I spent the morning at Town Hall with staff from several town departments, and also folks from the Acton Water District, Acton Boxborough Regional School District, Concord Public Works, Green Acton, and the local Medical Reserve Corps, engaging in a tabletop exercise to assess the community’s readiness to respond to a natural emergency.

The scenario was a week of heavy rain that resulted in flooding and power outages, paired with high temps and humidity.

Funding was provided by the state’s Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs to bring in staff from the Metropolitan Area Planning Council who led the exercise and will follow up with a report.

Two more products of this climate resilience and emergency preparedness initiative are a public fair that will take place on June 18 at NARA Park from 5-7 PM, and a neighborhood preparedness handbook.
